Jennifer Domaille:

CLASS OF 1963
San diego, CA

Jennifer's Story

I currently live in beautiful Eugene, Oregon in my own paid-for home. Currently single, I've been married twice: first to Michael Fawcett, whom I met in neurophysiology class at UC Santa Barbara, then to Peter Domaille, a postdoc I met while working in the Physics Department at the same university. Both marriages ended in divorce, but we all get along fine. I went on to earn a Master's degree in Biology at UC Santa, but I guess I liked being a student so in ensuing years I took classes at Vancouver University in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, UC Santa Barbara and West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania. Whenever I needed money, I worked as a secretary. Finally, i decided to get serious and got my teaching credential in Secondary Education from West Chester University. But I didn't have a chance to use it in PA because I moved, with my two children, Ileana and Dylan, to Eugene. I've always loved Oregon and when I got divorced, I felt free to move anywhere I wanted. After completing the requirements for an Oregon teaching credential, I got a teaching job in Lebanon, OR. I also worked as a science teacher (biology, chemistry) in Marcola, OR (closer to my home in Eugene). After teaching for a total of seven years, I retired in 2000. I now spend time on my hobbies: gardening (flowers, no room for vegetables--mainly because of all the flowers!), photography (anything outdoors: scenery, flowers, insects and other little critters), painting (not much production, but I wish I would get in the mood to do more), trying to stay fit (off and on; right now its "on"!), collecting figurines from Africa and watching baseball, basketball and football (in person or on TV). Lately, I've been very interested in bird watching and I've managed to attract 23 different species of birds to my 5 bird feeders hanging from an apple tree in my back yard. I can observe them with my binoculars through a large picture window. I don't know what I enjoy more: watching their behavior and in...Expand for more
teraction with other birds or identifying each new species as they arrive. So far in my life I've lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Guam (an island in the Mariana Islands chain in the Pacific off the coast of China and east of the Philippines), California (San Diego and Santa Barbara)and Pennsylvania (West Chester and Coatesville, both suburbs of Philadelphia) and Oregon (definitely my last stop!). My second husband was an Australian and we visited Australia, New Zealand and Fiji. (Fiji was warm and beautiful, but New Zealand was my favorite!). I have 4 sisters: Claudia, Lucinda, Margaret and April, and a brother, Alan--all of which are living. My mother, Martha, passed December, 2012 at the age of 93 and my dad, Jery, died of cancer in 1991, at the age of 71. I am in regular contact with my sister, Claudia, who lives in Caldwell, Idaho, my sister, Lucinda, who lives on Vashon Island, Washington and my sister, Margaret (less frequently), living in Woodland, CA. My other two siblings, April and Alan, also live in Woodland and I see them only occasionally. I am in regular contact with my daughter, Ileana, who also lives in Eugene and is married to David Baker. His large, extended family lives here in Eugene and all of us get together during the holidays--at least so far since Ileana has been married only a few years! She's 7 months pregnant (this January, 2013). It's a boy and we all look forward to the little guy's birth. Unfortunately, Dylan lives farther away--in Nederland, Colorado. He's also married to a wonderful girl, Monica (Miller). Since both of them have earned PhD's, (he in biochemistry and she in English-I can't remember her specialty at the moment) I can't wait to see how smart THOSE kids are! Both my kids--and their spouses--are wonderful people, but then, I'm biased, of course... As I read over what I've written, it seems pretty boring to me. In spite of that I believe that I'm very comfortable, content and happy, and I've truly enjoyed the life I've lived so far!
