Jennifer's Story
Life
I went to school in Chatsworth California, attending Superior Street Elem and Devonshire Elem. Moved to Ohio in 1966 and attended Barnes Jr. High and Fairmont West. In 1971, I moved to Germany where I attended and graduated from the Augsburg American High School. I now live in Crystal Lake IL, and work for Heritage Bank of Schaumburg. Retired from AT&T in Cincinnati in 1996 when I moved to IL from OH. I sing with 2 choirs in Crystal Lake, and a small woman's group. I am board president of the Voices in Harmony Choir in Crystal Lake. I currently study classical voice and perform whenever opportunities arise. I have one daughter, just recently married and graduated from college. 8 years ago, I married a wonderful guy, Don Oberbillig.
School
My music and art teachers inspired me the most. In fact, I am an active advocate for the school systems in my area to keep the...Expand for more
arts in the classroom. I would have never made it through high school without music and art. Thank God for those teachers. Over the years, I have fought to keep music education and chorus in the middle school system infusing the argument that no amount of math or reading would have ever given me or my daughter the self esteem we both derived from music, and if you have reached one person with a program, you have a measurement of success. Many of today's leaders reflect on their own music education as a benefit they received as children and young adults, along with being one of the single most important elements in their lives. My daughter benefited greatly from music education, both public and private, and graduated with a vocal performance and pedagogy degree. (It's true what they say about the release of endorphins when you sing.) Save the Music!!! Save the Arts!!!
