Jennifer's Story

January 1, 2022 - Arrived in BC on Dec. 14 just in time for snow and the new Covid 19 Omicron restrictions. I'm staying in Maple Ridge with family and friends until February so I have plenty of time to catch up. My parents celebrated their 90th birthdays and 71st wedding anniversary in 2021 so it has been good to see them again. We have had to postpone family gatherings to celebrate so hopefully we can go forward with our plans in 2022. I'm hoping and looking forward to high school grad reunion this year also. Happy New Year to all of you and all the best for 2022! Cheers! August 22, 2021 - 102 F - sunny, dry and of course hot! We are in the middle of summer and have had monsoon weather the past few weeks - but no dust storms yet. The move to my youngest daughter's house went well and I'm enjoying being around my grandsons - who are always asking, "Nana are you going to fix some food?" The temporary job with the CPA office in ending this week so not sure what the next assignment will be .AZ employers are having difficulty hiring permanent people - they're going to have to increase wages and be more flexible with schedules. Working from home has changed the way people see their job situations. I've been offered several permanent positions over the past year but I'm keeping my schedule open to spending a few weeks in BC toward the end of the year. I have been thinking about you and hope all of you are are safe and well. Take care! Jennifer July 11, 2021 8:45 pm 100 F ( we don't do that other one here) So I've been writing so much that I had to delete some of the really old posts. One is allowed only so many characters. I have been concerned for all of you in BC with these unprecedented heat waves and people dying of excessive heat related causes. PLEASE take care of yourself and check on others, especially those who live alone. My parents said that two of their neighbors who lived alone died from the heat. The house I live in has solar panels and A/C and we are comfortable inside. I know how difficult it would be to suffer from the heat. AZ is in the monsoon season, very hot and humid with dust storms, and lightening and thunder storms, lots of wind but not much rain, which we desperately need. I have finally reached the point that even though I love living in AZ I'm looking for a cooler place to live for part of the year so I will probably be heading north whenever the border opens up without so many restrictions. I'm working a temp job for a CPA which is supposed to last until the first week of November - then I hope I can spend some time in BC. A special hello and thank-you to those who stopped by my profile - I appreciate your interest! Perhaps next year the class reunions will allow us to 'meet and greet' and catch up on 'news'. I would love to tour Templeton and reminisce. I loved my high school years but perhaps not every feels that way. Next Saturday I'll be moving to my younger daughter's place in Chandler AZ ( just up the road about 10-15 min.) I've lived at my older daughter's house for a year and it's time to move on. I thought I was going to be finished with moving but not the case - it's been odd not being able to travel 'home' whenever I want - not liking that at all! Be well and stay safe! Cheers - Jennifer. May 2021 Hello All, the month is almost over! Spring is in full bloom right now and we have already had temperatures over 100 degrees. Not enough rain though, we are in a drought but there don't seem to be any restrictions in water usage. At the present time I am between job assignments which gives me time to have some car maintenance done and get a scheduled 2nd vaccine jab. Hope you and your families are well. I read that British Columbia has been divided into health authorities and you're not supposed to travel outside of your areas? If that's true how is it affecting you? I'm still waiting for the border to open up so I can travel to BC. I'm hoping that I'll be able to schedule a couple of months during the holiday season at the end of this year. As always I appreciate the visits to my profile - leave a note once in awhile - I will answer! Take care! March 2021 It's already into the middle of April but I wanted to share a few things about March. March has become a month of celebrating 'milestone' dates. By March 9, 1974 I received permanent residence status to live and work in the U.S. My first child was born in January of that year and released from the Vancouver General NICU after 6 weeks when she finally weighed 5 lbs. We left Vancouver for Ft. Lewis, Washington. March 19, 1961 was an important date for our family as we were baptized to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Sixty-one years later just my parents and I are active members of the church in our parent's family of children and grandchildren and a few great grandchildren! Throughout the years from 1961 to this year I've experienced major challenges and made mistakes that I regret but never lost my faith or testimony in Jesus Christ. I have received parental and divine support and many blessings along th...Expand for more
e way and today I'm in a good place, still learning and working on being the best person I can be in following and living the teachings of Jesus Christ. As the saying goes, " I'm a work in progress!" I'm truly grateful to my parents for their unwavering, awesome examples in their marriage, family and church service. March 22, 1999 my first grandchild (grandson) was born and I became "Nana" - a name I love to hear from the grandchildren that I love dearly. Today I have 5 grandson's and 1 granddaughter, ages 22 to 9, each one unique and talented. The three youngest (grandsons) live within 15 minute drive so I see them often. For the past month I've been working at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine as the Wellness check person who greets each person coming into the Medical Center, takes their name and temperature, asks the standard "Covid" questions, logs the information and sends them on their way - patients, staff, students, doctors, professors, admin personnel, volunteers and delivery drivers. People create a positive energy that is wonderful to be in contact with - the campus has a good 'vibe". I'm enjoying my assignment in this environment. As always I enjoy seeing new people classmates and appreciate your visits and answers to my email notes. Thank-you and Regards, 'til next time! Jennifer Feb 2021 Hello All! I've heard a lot of people's comments about how 2020 affected their lives and the expectations they have for 2021. Such turbulent times and the world and the earth are still suffering and humanity is trying to recover from grief and illness. In all of that we as individuals do what we are able to take care of ourselves and serve and help others in our personal circles and in our communities. I wish all the best to each of you that 2021 will bring positive changes to you and your loved ones. The month of January was a good one for me. I took time off work to take care of personal 'stuff' ( dr. appointments, dentist, maintenance on my car, new brakes, interior detail etc. ) I started training for a new assignment working for a company that had the project of processing loan applications for the SBA federal funds for payroll protection. The first two days were training and then I started this intensely stressful job that within the first two weeks my job description changed three times and there was separate training for each and the pressure for numbers was incredible. Last week I was diagnosed with the Shingles virus so I off boarded the job - I was working from home so I packed up the equipment and focused on treating, and recovering from this intensely painful virus that attacked the nerves on the right side of my scalp and caused my right ear to become numb. The recovery time is 3-5 weeks with lingering effects for months. The medication I'm taking is to reduce the pain and inflammation and promote healing. I'm into the second week and the medication is working well although I sleep a lot and I'm off balance when I walk.. If any of you has not had a shingles shot I highly recommend that you that get one as soon as you can. It's will be much better and far less painful than building up immunity by actually getting the shingles. I had chicken pox before I started school and shingles in high school. I'm so glad this attack wasn't on my face!! I can get a shot but I have to wait six months. Enough of that! I don't celebrate Valentines Day for myself anymore. To me it's a commercialized day that earns over 17 billion dollars for Hallmark, and every business that sells dinners, jewelry, flowers, and other gifts.ST. Valentines Day began as a day to honor two catholic martyrs each named Valentine who on Feb 14 of different years were murdered. Over the years thanks to Shakespeare who romanticized this day and began the tradition of notes and Hallmark who commercialized the notes and society then took it further with the special dinner plus night to celebrate love. I would rather have over a year's time receive handwritten personal notes, flowers, spontaneous or planned activities, and hearing a sincere "I love you" every day. Ok, I'm getting of my "soapbox" As I look over the year of 2020 I see that I got to connect with my friends and family more often on Facebook and Classmates and I appreciate all of you so much! I came out of 2020 financially more stable than I was in 2019. I remained well and healthy - I took off 30 lbs and am working on another 25 for this year - getting a slow start but the goal is there! I'm living in a place that is warm and sunny - we didn't have any dust storms. We could have had more rain to ward off drought but we had very few rain, thunder or lightening storms. Who know what the weather will be like this summer in the valley of the Sun - most of what we've had is out of the norm. I'm waiting to be able to cross the border with a minimum of restrictions - I miss seeing my family and my mother is feeling the isolation, the weather in Maple Ridge doesn't help that right now either. I wish you and your families all the best this year. Until we meet again! Cheers! Jennifer
