Jennifer's Story

Life I am married to Karl - a wonderful man! I have two boys of my own, Jeremy and Jared, and I have a step-daughter, Brooke. Karl adopted my boys in December of 2003. We have 1 cat, Tommy Pickles! Karl is the After Market Detail Manager at Blue Springs Ford. Jeremy is a Sophomore at Wm. Chrisman. Jared is in Kindergarten at Spring Branch. Brooke is a Sophomore at Van Horn. As for me.........I work for Walker Towel & Uniform Service in KCMO. For the past 12 years or so, I have been addicted to Karaoke!! For those of you who remember, I was in Concert Choir and Women's Choir as well as Sugar & Spice/Camerata. So, I can sing! I usually don't make a fool out of myself unless I want to! I sing all types of music and the hardest thing I had to overcome in Karaoke was the "choir voice" sound! I love a good Karaoke contest and have learned that I am very competitive! I have had a great time with the contests and have won lots of money over the years! If anyone ever wants to go out to sing, just let me know! 816 286 9640! I also like taking pictures of my family and friends - I always have. I have 10's of thousands of pictures and I would love to share them with anyone who wants to see them. I even have pictures of the 2003 reunion! I plan on putting together a collage for the 2008 reunion to include pictures from grade school on up! So, if you have any pictures you want inlcuded get in touch with me! When I am not taking care of my family or doing Karaoke, I am usually on my computer.........It is the best purchase I ever made and I have more than gotten my money's worth out of it! I love to email, listen to music, and create picture cd's (with music). I love playing around on the computer and learning new programs and such. My husband hates the computer and wants to toss it, right along with my cat! I live really close to my mother (next door, to be exact). Most of you would say that you couldn't live so close to mom, but actually, it is a great convenience when I have things to do. Mom is retired now and watches my youngest when I am working. In addition, I feel it is important for the kids to be so close to their grandmother. They have an awesome relationship. Lastly, I love my mother and time is short! I want to spend as much time with her as I can. Some of you might remember that my dad suffered from a rare skin cancer and died our freshmen year - the time in our lives when we don't really want to be close to our parents). I refuse to make that mistake with my mother. She is a wonderful woman who has given me a wonderful life. Kudos to Mom!!! School I had so many crushes in high school....It would take an eternity to list them all. It seems like every week I was "in love" with someone new! I cannot say that any of our teachers truly inspired me, but I did enjoy taking French with Mrs. Simmons and Concert/Women's Choir with Mr. Dickerson. If I could do high school all over again, I really would choose not to. But if I had t...Expand for more
o, I would be more outgoing and not let other people's opinions of me go straight to my heart. I would be more bold and speak my mind instead of letting the "meanies" hurt my feelings. Thank God I am grown up now and not afraid to tell people what I think! What I enjoyed the most about high school was knowing a lot of people but not really being a part of any one "click." I had fun with whoever I was walking the halls with or eating lunch with. My most embarrassing "classmate" moment came after high school! One night, about 15 years ago, I went to a club with Jennifer Jenkens, April Cottrill, and a handful of other people. One of those people was Lance "Pooh" Miller. I don't even think he knew who I was! Jennifer and Lance rode with me to a club downtown KC. At that time, my oldest son was still in a car seat, so I put the car seat in the trunk and Lance sat in that spot. We get to the club, get out of the car, and I cannot remember his exact words, but Lance said that he had something stuck to his shirt. It ended up being a Gummy Saver that was stuck to the back of the seat. I was mortified. Here I was, getting to take one of the coolest kids in high school to a club with a bunch of friends and I am responsible for ruining his shirt. I know it seems silly to be embarrassed about it, but I am sure Lance was there to pick up on some hot chicks and I ruined his shirt. I was humiliated. Lance, if you ever read this and remember the incident, I am so, so sorry! College Right after high school I made my way to NWMSU to pursue an Early Education degree! After my first observation class (30 pre-schoolers calling me Ms. Nevils) I decided that I did NOT want to be a teacher! As to not waste my mother's money, I took off my rose colored glasses and got an education in life! I learned how to drink beer and have fun at fraternity parties! I also learned that sometimes the world looks a lot better with your beer goggles on! I left NWMSU at the end of that semester, and the next several years were a lot of fun! Then I decided that I would never make any real money unless I had a college degree. So in 2001 I went back to school. I graduated from Park University in 2004 with a degree in Management/Human Resources. I am now 11 credit hours into my master's degree. Once I complete that.....who knows! Someday you just may call me Doctor Jennifer Porter!! Workplace Over the years, I have worked in several different positions gaining a tremendous amount of experience in customer service and office management. I decided I was the most comfortable in a human resources environment. It is almost a rush because HR is such a busy field. I have been a recruiter for local staffing agencies and I have worked in the HR department at Ameristar Casino. I really enjoy the field. Currently, I am working for Walker Towel & Uniform Service as a Sales Coordinator. Although I am not using my degree right now, I enjoy what I am doing and enjoy the people I work with.
