Jennifer's Story

Life I am Controller for a small oil & gas company. I have been married to David for 28 years and have a daughter, Emily - 22, and a son, Zachary - 20. After graduating college I got a job with Union Pacific Resources Co. (the oil & gas subsidiary of the UP Corp.) as an auditor. I worked at UPR for 12 years then took a voluntary severance package when the company merged with Anadarko Petroleum in Houston, since we didn't want to go to Houston. I was able to work on a transition team for a year and then I got a job with some ex-UPR folks at Stroud Energy. I was at Stroud for 4 years and loved it. Then Stroud was purchased by Range Resources, which is also in Ft. Worth. I didn't stay for long, though. I got an offer to join a startup company with the previous owner of Stroud. I decided to go for it, so I worked at Braden Exploration, here in Ft. Worth, for 5 years. We sold the assets of the company and some of us started Braden II. I worked at Braden II for 3 years until it closed. Now I am in limbo hoping for a great job to come my way! When I moved to Texas (right before my sophomore year of high school) I continued to keep in touch with friends from Maryland, but after a couple of years I ended up losing touch with them. Letter writing is one of my downfalls - email is a god-send. I hope to find some of them again. School After graduating, I began attending Texas Wesleyan Univ. in the Fall of 1983 on full scholarship - woohoo!! But stupid me decided since I had worked so hard in high school for good grades decided it was time to take it easy for a while. Not a good decision. By the end of my freshman year my gpa was not high enough to stay with the scholarship. So I mo...Expand for more
ved to Dallas Baptist Univ. where my dad was teaching - so I still got to go for free. I stayed there for two years. It was there I decided to major in accounting, but the accounting program was not up to snuff. I knew I would need to go somewhere else. Well, I got married in the Fall of 1986 and stayed out a semester. I resumed my college career at the Univ. of Texas at Arlington, which has a top notch accounting program. Between working 32-40 per week and going to school only part time, I finally graduated with a BBA in accounting in 1990. whew! College I went to three different schools and it took me 7 years. aargh! Getting married during college set me back quite a while. With all of the transferring, I ended up with many unusable hours. Is that being well rounded or stupid? ha. I never lived on campus - always commuted. I majored in accounting and I passed the CPA exam in 1994. I was very tired of school by the time I finished and did not want to continue on for a masters degree - still don't. Workplace After college I got a job with Union Pacific Resources (the oil & gas subsidiary of UP Corp.). I was an internal auditor for them for 3 years, then moved into revenue accounting where I learned gas plant accounting. I stayed there for 4 years, then moved into the planning dept. to work with one of our business units. When Anadarko took over and moved the company to Houston I didn't go, but was able to work on a data warehouse transition team for a year. My total years at UPR were 11. I took a month off and began working Stroud Energy where I was the assistant controller. I work with great folks and I can't imagine not working in the oil & gas industry. I love it.
