Jennifer's Story

Life I am now living in KY since '05 and am rehabbing a barnhouse to make it livable. I also have a wonderful 17 year old son, 3 gelding alpacas, 2 dogs, 5 bunnies and 6 cats. I am living here to take care of my mother who is end stage CPD (50 years of drinking and smoking are not a good thing!). She presently lives in an assited living down the road but will hopefully come live with me as I get the barnhouse inhabitable. I lived in SF for 11 years working in the major theatres for Broadway touring shows. I started in tickets and worked my way up to managment - a high powered postion to make sure there was enough tp in the restrooms and enough liquor in the star's dressing room. Actually I did a lot of boring contract enforcement work, occasional bomb searches and dealt with 5 international unions - being a member of one myself. I loved the work and the life and miss the weather. Do not miss the earthquakes. I moved on to live on an island near Seattle for a short time and then landed back in Ohio. There I fell into being a housing inspector and became a single mother of a son. We moved to Truth ...Expand for more
or Consequences NM for about 5 years - we really loved it there but ended up returning to Ohio to take care of my parents during their health declines - and I ended up being a housing inspector again for about 3 different cities. After my father died and my mother survived hospice and needed the $ for a nurisng home, we sold her house for that and my son and I moved to northern CA to live on an alpaca farm. We had been doing the alpaca biz long distance from Maryland for several years so this was a great opportunity to really get the biz going. However one of the owners came down with serious bad health and decided to sell the farm. At the same time my mother ran out of $. So we ended moving her to KY near her sister and her sister's daughter decided to get into alapacas. She helped us move from CA and let us rent a couple of rooms in her house while we built fencing for her and tried to teach her the biz. But now thank goodness we are under our own roof and labor for ourselves. As my mother declines and we spend a lot of time reminiscing I have enjoyed reconnecting with people from the lakes and THS.
