Jennifer's Story
Life
PROFESSIONAL LIFE:
I am studying Psychology and Sexuality Studies at UC Davis. It is my intention to get a Master's from CSU Sacramento in Psychology and get a job teaching at a community college. Once that goal is accomplished, I will pursue a PhD in Human Sexuality.
MY FAMILY:
I live in Orangevale with my brilliant, creative 'Starving Artist' husband, Odin. I have two beautiful sons, Griffin (13) and Duncan (11). Griffin likes anime, video games, football and dogs. Duncan plays cello, and enjoys listening to music, singing, playing basketball and watching the Disney Channel. I have an adorable chihuahua, Gracie, a talkative Jardine's parrot, Captain Flint, and two cats, Ouzo and Osiris. My pets are just as much a part of my family as the rest of us.
MY HOBBIES:
I like to drink tea & talk with friends, love my husband, my children and my pets, work out at the gym, sail my Laser, sketch, paint, write poetry, sing, play my fiddle, take nature walks and play POGO.com.
Odin and I enjoy geocaching, watching movies and playing cribbage. I collect 1940's and 1950's women's magazines & antique Mathematics textbooks (1950 or earlier, no color pictures) as well as toy tea sets (both ceramic and tin).
School
The San Juan School District is evil.
School children are cruel.
I enjoyed memorizing Shakespeare, daydreaming and cutting class in favor of window shopping.
I spent most of my sophomore year shooting pool & listening to bands at local bars.
I took the proficiency exam and went to college because my Spanish teacher told me to! Best advice I ever received. Thanks, Donna!
College
College is AMAZING. I thrive on the intellectual stimulation. I fell in love with the one subject I hated throughout grade school, Mathematics. Pure Math is so beautiful. I majored in Math and got my AS in Mathematics & Physical Sciences. I then took a long break to raise my children.

majors when I returned to college because I enjoy so many different subjects. My favorites are philosophy, religious studies, cultural anthropology, and art history. I decided to study psychology because it will enable me to pursue study in Human Sexuality. In that field I can work with experts in diverse fields such as biology, sociology, statistics and many, many others. (Life is too short! I need more years so I can study everything!)
Workplace
When I left High School, I was 16, and I worked concession at a movie theater for a while (great geek job). Then I worked at a miniature golf place when I was 17 (I wish they had DDR back in those days). I worked two weeks at a Denny's as a hostess, and that sucked. I worked at a child care center with school-agers for a year when I was 18. I worked three months at a video store when I was 19. I worked at a Hallmark store for a while, but I'm just not girly enough to be an effective Hallmark cashier.
In '93, I got a job at a novelty shop just because it was next door to the comic book shop Odin worked at, and I could stare through the window all day long and see him through the glass wall.
Then I had children and went to college.
I worked as a Mathematics tutor in college. After my AS degree, and after I divorced my ex, I worked at a game store for almost a year (another great geek job). Then I worked a year at a preschool. Then I worked as a massage therapist in a spa. Then I worked as an office manager for a computer repair company.
The weirdest job experience I had was yet to come: I worked for the San Juan School District. I revisited the schools I went to as a child. Total mind screw. For a while, I worked with autistic children, and it was a wonderful experience. I learned a lot about myself working with them.
Now, I'm on the home stretch in college, and I am looking forward to a fulfilling career teaching psychology.
