Jeremy's Story
Workplace
Let's start by saying, we've all had those jobs that none of us really like to mention, yet hold fond memories for us simply because they were autonomous times of being free from our parents and getting our first dose of real $. In the summer of '89, I trained and became a lifeguard for Lake Lanier Islands. Suddenly, girls became my reason for living and the bikini never looked so good. After that spectacular four months of basically just being worthless (although there were several hit concerts I attended, including Milli Vanilli at Lakewood!), I got my big employment break with School Tools and Office Pals (STOP, the savvy acronym they coined it) and pulled warehouse orders between classes at Dekalb. I returned to Lake Lanier after the demise of STOP in '92, and floated in and out of hopsitable services such as catering and doing odd jobs at the Island's Hilton hotel. In '93, I became employed with Atlanta Casualty Auto Insurance and started working in their mail room between classes. I then reached beyond mail and went into their printing division, while earning my degree at Georgia State, where I worked nights, mornings, afternoons, whatever my schedule downtown called for. In 2000, post-graduation, I signed a contract with ...Expand for more
Forsyth County Board of Education, promising to serve the school system and teach 7th graders mathematics and uh hum, reading. Although I'm sure I gave the kids a handicap in their literature works (ha ! ha !), I hope they are better mathematicians at this point. We built bridges, designed ocean docks, and caculated the force of future incoming tsunamis. My contract expired and in good time, as I was offerred a position with Atlanta Casualty (now Infinity) as their Print-Operations Supervisor, supervising three shifts of large volume print and mail. I currently still make my living here at Infinity Insurance, though the travel industry is calling my name! In 2005, I married my best friend, my business partner, and my girlfriend, Michele Shoemake of Forsyth County at a tiny chapel in Gatlinburg, TN in front of 30 of our closest friends including Dacula High classmates Steve Tullis and Joel "Jody" Hair. We currently live in Buford and both work for auto insurance competitors. We are very involved with Eighties music and have done PR work for British bands ABC and Kajagoogoo who were strikingly popular in the '80s when I was a lad at Dacula and North Gwinnett Highs schools. No kids and God on our side, life is good and everyday is a blessing.
