Jerome's Story
Life
i was originally from the fenkell/wyoming area. i lived at 8530 chalfonte between cherrylawn and ohio (the house i lived in and i are both long gone from there). cooley....that almost seems like a movie i saw once long long ago. i have managed to keep in touch with most of my best friends from those days and love running into people i kinda knew or just remember from walking up and down the hall. cooley was really some great times. i wrote for the school newspaper all 3 years i went to cooley, after leaving post junior high (and clinton elementary before that), and we had a lot of fun doing it - i will never forget miss linda rankin (english teacher and in charge of the school paper)because she was a great teacher who cared about all of us AND didnt put up with any of our crap. we had a whole pad of hall passes that my friend patrick (merrill) use to forge miss rankins signature so that we could wander the halls at will....but we never got into any real trouble though. speaking of patrick he and my other friend michael mckleevey and i drew some murals in dining room C (new building in the front, first floor) of the cartoon jackson 5, jimi hendrix, diana ross, an african warrior, don cornelious (soul train), freda payne, and a bunch of other entertainment stars. those pictures stayed on those walls for about 10 years but were painted over about 1990 - luckily i have some pictures of them. because i got into photography in junior high school i use to casually take pictures all the time and have TONS of pictures of friends and people i didnt really even know that well from those days....those are some of my greatest prized possesions. although i always seem to run into people i knew from those days it seems that most other people i know rarely seem to run into old schoolmates. i find that most people look...Expand for more
exactly the same and i usually recognize them even if i dont remember their names or maybe even where i knew them from. although i have to admit i dont know how people ever remember me. i really felt that i was kinda 'lost in the sauce' in those days and didnt think anybody would remember me. i have photo albums up under cooley high school, post junior high school and clinton elementary (my schools)with pictures of the schools inside and out. i also have photo albums up under some schools that friends have attended...redford high school (which unfortunately closed in may of 2007), burns elementary and cadillac middle school. i'm overjoyed that some pictures that i have taken have brought back fond memories to some people. you can see the progress of my meager photographic skills in a lot of these pictures. some of them are by instamatic pictures, a lot are 35mm and a lot are digital.
i am hoping that as people look at the pictures of their schools that they post messages/memories that they particular pictures bring back to them - that is absolutely the BEST to read!!!! we are all different ages, races and religions but the one thing we have in common are these school.
over the years i have been lucky enough to meet a lot of the people that i admire what they do whether it is as an actor, musician or singer. i have collected a TON of autographs and pictures of celebrities - almost all of them taken as various people were in town (metro-detroit area). that has been a whole lot of fun.
whenever i am not taking pictures of something or bothering some celebrity for their autograph i am eithier at the detroit historical museum where i have been a docent (tour guide) for the past 18 years or at the henry ford museum/greenfield village where, as i am a big history dork/fanatic, i spend a whole lot of time.
