Jerry's Story

When I attended Princess Anne High School in the 8th grade, it was my 8th school. Dad was in the Navy and we constantly moved around. I learned at a very young age that if I was going to have any friends, I needed to go out and make them. I would probably only be around for a year, the other kids already had friends and didn't need me. If I wanted friends, I needed to make the effort. It helped to shape my personality and this is why I and outgoing. I was lucky enough to attend PAHS for 5 years, grades 8-12,when dad retired and bought a home. Dad passed away of a heart attach my senior year and I attended ODU my first year of college. After one year, I transferred to VA Tech and spent 4 great years in Blacksburg. he peanut business after college and that is how I eventually ended up in Suffolk. I married Beth Butler, PAHS 1974, and we had a son Jay and a daughter, Leigh Anne. They spent their school career at Nansemond Suffolk Academy and both eventually graduated From ODU. Jay is finishing up his MBA at Regent University. Jay lives off of Great Neck RD. on the Lynnhaven River and Leigh Anne lives on the 20th floor of the Harbor Tower on the Elizabeth River in Old Town Portsmouth. Beth and I have lived in an old, 1878, Victorian home in the Riverview neighborhood of Suffolk for the last 31 years. Unlike myself, my children knew only one home and one school before going away to college. Their childhood friends became their lifetime friends.

We're back home from our mini vacation on Hatteras Island. We stayed at Frisco Woods Campground.
Since both kids will be of town next week, Beth & LA took me to Bouy 44 for Father's Day on Saturday. Sunday we went to Jay's pool and grilled burgers at his place.
The kids may have been out of town today, but Beth still took me down to Chix Oyster Bar at 7th & Atlantic to see Louis McGhee for Father's day.

When we bought the house we had a dirt floor shed where I built a nice garage in 1990.

After I built the garage, Beth wanted a new kitchen, so I built her one with a new downstairs bath, enclosed the back porch and built a deck of Trex and matched the deck railing to front wrap around porch railing.

A friend of mine who is no longer with us hand whittled and painted these Santas for me. He used to do them every year for what he said was his Christmas money.
