Jerry's Story

Life I did kindergarden in East Rochester & grades 1 through 6 in the old school. Did 7th grade over on Brock Street and then grades 8 through 12 at Spaulding graduating in 1965. Went to Manchester to Autobody Manpower Training Center and Graduated that in 1966. Going in the Navy at that time And served on the Uss Talladega (APA 208) [VietNam Medal with Bronze Star] in Longbeach Calif - Then Shipfitters "A" School in San Diego Calif - Then Indoctrination Submarine School in New London Conn - Off to Holy Lock, Scotland serving on the Los Alamos (AFDB 7) - From there onto Norfolk, Va serving on the USS O'Hare (DD889) getting out of the Navy in 1971 [4 year Good conduct Medal and Honerable Discharge]. Worked a couple of small jobs for 1 year before starting at Davidson Rubber in Farmington, NH doing bumper repair until 1974. At that time I entered the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard chipping paint, then into the Insulation shop, and finally settled into the Occupational Safety and Health Code. Here I ended up as a lead and asbestos inspector along with being the Lab officer for the National Asbestos Identification PAT Program & the Lab officer for the National Asbestos Fiber Counting PAT Program along with being The Mercury Control Officer For the Portsmoth Naval Shipyard. I was also registered with the State of Maine for Emergency Hazmat. Retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard after about 34 years of total government service. Now I have a small job to keep me occupied during the summer working as a caretaker for a 50 acre farm but that stops when hunting season starts. Currently widowed of a wife of 20 years. 8 children-step children. 10 Grandchildren with 2 more (twins) on the way. School Crushes: I had a few of them and is any one crush any smaller than any other? Ah fantasy Teachers: Mr Hall (chromedome)brought me into the math world. Mr Smith just a so so chess player ha ha but lots of fun. Craziest memory was being sent up to the attic for some wood for woodshop and seeing the airplane engine up there and I think it was a round 9 cylinder. The other crazy moment was throwing balloon prophalactics out the window from detention up in Room 301. Happiest memory was finding out that a girl I had a crush on - wasn't pregnant. The other happy moment was winning the chess game against the state champion who came to the school - who was Paul Dumont...Expand for more
(Mike Dumont's father). Funniest was when Valentine was escaping from the tank. I believe it was Bert Stacy who put the Boa back in the case. One of the things I did in high school was throw blown up Trojans out the window during detention in room 301. I'm retired now but have a small job taking care of a 50 acre farm. I work about 20 hours a week, just enough to keep me busy. My first crush thought she was pregnant(not by me) and ended up marring somebody else. My favorite cloths are old jeans and t-shirts. Have a couple trophies for sharp shooting and bowling. If I had 1 do over I wouldn't have gotten rid of my 51 Ford. I share my home with kittens, which I find laughable. One of my fondest memories was taking my boat from in back of my parents house in E-Side and floating down the Salmon Falls River to the dam by the S-Turns on the Salmon Falls Road. hope old friends remember me as easy going. I always wanted to be a airplane mechanic when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a neat idea. As it turns out, they were wrong and me too becauce i'm color blind. Naps are good for or instead of blowing up at soeone or something. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have a good nights rest, a morning cup of tea, and a lunch box to be able to deal with the day-to-day. no hero in my life. my inspiration comes from imagination. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is navy buddies, because they were good friends. Getting my 1960 Willy's Jeep up and running again - just blew the motor - 283 Chevy damned. Meeting new friends on Face-Book. I've been over on facebook. Com over and visit. LOL
