Gerald's Story

(A poem dedicated to our classmates follows my story.) I am a fortunate man. I married a good woman and found the kind of work I do best. The most important thing in Donna and my lives is our three children (Jennifer, Matthew, and Kerri Ann) and eight grandchildren. After serving aboard the USS Hornet, I got a job, while attending Mount San Antonio College, at the Broadway Department Store where I met Donna. We soon got married and afterwards began our family (in the order shown above). Jennifer lives in Colorado with her daughter Megan (now a coach). Matt, a single father, sired three Japanese daughters. The girls (Kira, Mira, and Sara seem like prodigies). I have a photo of Mira and Sara (age seven and five) playing chess. They all learned to speak English playing video games and watching American television. As a teacher and then as a manager of several teachers Matt has done well. Our youngest Kerri Ann, however, has stayed close to us from childhood. Her three sons (Jakob, Clayton, and Micah) are a great blessing. During the corona-virus episode she has taken care of us by bringing us supplies. With my wife's stroke she has once again proven to us that she is a saint. Long before this period, as Donna and I struggled, Donna has proven to be a rock of strength. Her illness has brought us all closer together. When I was working on my degrees at California State University Fullerton, she worked as a banker. I got a job as a graduate assistant and then as a research assistant. Because it was such a hardship on my family, however, I never went for my PhD. I don't regret. With my Naval background, security clearance, and degrees, many door opened up for me, including technical writing in aerospace and private industry, government work, and, when I retired, corporate security. Our home in Anaheim, which overlooked the Santa Ana River, was a great place for the kids to grow up. We had many pets (dogs, cats, ducks, and rabbits). I built an aviary for parrots and parakeets, a fort for Matthew, and a playhouse for Jennifer and Kerri Ann. I also made a train layout and constructed our book shelves. I thought about doing carpentry part time in retirement, but corporate security was much easier. When I had plenty of time on my hands, I learned to play classical music on a piano we had saved up for. It appears that I have a knack for learning the piano. People don't believe you can teach yourself, but I can play complex pieces such as Chopin's Polonaise after only a short while. I also became an amateur paleontologist and have combed the hills in Orange County California and North Texas and found an assortment of marine fossils. In addition to these hobbies,, I continued my woodwork. During this time, I studied hieroglyphs and created a series of inscriptions which I posted on my website.. Lastly and most importantly, I have written several novel...Expand for more
s, a book of poems, and one of short stories, also posted on my website. When we decided I would retire completely we followed Kerri Ann and her family to Texas, where we live today--Kerri Ann, her husband Kyle and children in Southlake and Donna and I in Fort Worth. We love Texas, and yes we talk like them a little. I could go on and on about the details of our lives. We managed to travel a little before we started having children, which included the Pueblo ruins of Arizona and New Mexico. Later on, we visited her sister near the Jemez Pueblo, not far from where Donna was born. Her ancestry can be seen in her dark hair and eyes but also in the fact she can tan within such a short time. My Facebook and Gallery above show an early photo of her. I loved studying the Native Americans and did my thesis on her people and the Navajos.and the problems they had adjusting to the city.. When I look back on my life I realize how very short is the time we have on this earth. I think that a 60 year reunion is a great idea. The class of 59 has done this too. Unfortunately, my wife's stroke will prevent me from attending but I pray it is a success for all of you. I would like to hear from some of you. Please send me an email or visit my Facebook or website. From my book of poems (geraldgibson.com), I have enclosed my tribute to our classmates. Memories of Old Classmates Unforgotten faces emerging in my dreams are the memories of old classmates. In my daydreams they also appear: their faces, voices, and special traits. Names can be lost, but not eyes nor a smile nor a particular walk or look. I’ll find their photos after a little while tucked away in my yearbook. A few moments searching and it all comes back, each antidote and escapade. As if it happened but yesterday, each photograph is part of a parade. Left is my spirit, but gone are the games, the assemblies, the dances, and plays. Touching each picture in Ouija board fashion, I remember those carefree days. Long lost friends are out of reach, but time can’t sweep the past. The yearbook stirs my recollection, making my memories last. Endearing notes, as milestones left, under photos on special pages. Inside the cover in sweeping prose are the words of high school sages. Laughter and friendship, long ago heard, in each photo that I find. Those special persons touching my heart burn brightest in my mind. Co-eds and debutantes captured my affection as did the spirit of the high school teams. The games, the dates, and even the classes still haunt me in my dreams. Unforgotten faces live in my yearbook in an age that seemed trouble free. Life has always had its knocks, yet I’m filled with serenity. Lord protect them and guide their fates. Keep them safe, happy, and sane. Let my mind not forget and heart always feel the memories of old classmates. ---- Jerry Gibson

THE ORIGIN OF CHRISTMAS

THE MESSIANIC PROPHET

Among the prophets of the Bible, Isaiah could be considered second only the Moses in his impact on the Old Testament history. When he is considered in the scope of the entire Bible, however,
From his birth through his mission on earth, Resurrection, and Ascension, the story of Jesus told in the New Testament and shared in churches and homes throughout the world has uplifted and inspired Christians. His birth,

Faith and Science

What Lies ahead?
         I could scarcely fathom.
It filled me with dread
that we began as mere atoms.

How can that be

John the Baptist thought it odd

When Jesus began his ministry,
