Jerry's Story

If you see a picture you'd like, email me and I'll send it to you ASAP. It was a rainy weekend when I started this so you should consider it under construction. If you'd like a photo removed for some reason, get back to me as well. I'll take care of it on the next rainy weekend. I'd like to thank Mitch Murry for connecting me with this site. (I think) Anyway, this is what I have so far... Now that I've hit my 50's and I look back, here's what I see. * I partied way too much and studied way too little in my teens. * I was way too idealistic in my 20's but it was a magical time where it seemed like all things were possible. Many were. * I was way too serious and worked way too hard in my 30's. * In my 40's, I stopped and took a long deep breath. I changed careers and became a science teacher. In my early 40's, one of my students turned me on to Napster (I downloaded 3000 of billboards all time top 100 before they told me it was illegal oops ...LOL) and started enjoying the simple things I forgot. * Entering my 50's I realized that, that old saying "you don't got nothin', if you ain't got your health," is true! Both my parents past away of cancer 10 years ago. It took awhile, but I finally quit smoking on New Years Day 3 years ago realizing that death by cancer was my fate if I didn't stop. I started working out again and while I don't think I could run the Boston Marathon like I did 30 years ago, I do run 3 miles 2-3x a week and lift weights a little as well on the other days. My wife Tana usually works out with me so we share that and she's in better shape than I am. I once went to a local High School with the idea that I'd wrestle around a bit, but left when no body wanted to play with me because I was too old. LOL I was 37 at the time. LOL I bought a kite (I still have it and promise myself to fly it soon) I move a little slower these days. I've learned that no matter how much money I make, it will never be enough to pay off all my bills because I'll just buy more expensive stuff that I don't really need in the first place. I've had more and much less but it really comes down to how big of a house you want to live in and how fast you want your car to go. While we all need money, it is true that money doesn't buy happiness. However, a little bit of it sure makes happiness a little easier to find. :)There's a song lyric that comes to mind, "the secret is not getting what you want but wanting what you have". I like that! Of course, I haven't mention kids college tuition or their never ending need for the color green. However,...Expand for more
I never work on my summer vacations because time is a priceless commodity these days. After graduating Brockton High I went to college and graduated from the University of South Carolina. I studied briefly at Texas Women's University near Dallas before returning to Boston where I taught and coached briefly before opening up my own construction business "Woodworks Ltd." I met and married my wife Tana over 20 years ago and while we don't have kids of our own, we do have her's (that's enough LOL). The late 80's and early 90's were tough on construction and I decided to go back to college at Bridgewater State. I completed my pre-med course work and I seriously toyed with the idea of med school. Here's a scary thought .. your entering an operating room you see my face with a scaple in my hand. LOL Instead however, I ended up teaching science here at Eagles Landing Middle School in Boca Raton, Florida after taking a construction manager's position with Lennar Corp. a large firm here in South Florida. I learn a lot from my students. They remind me of how to think young. They also recently turned me onto Youtube. While I hadn't played the guitar in a very long time, I now make a little time each day to take guitar lessons from my Youtube buddies. I'm going to buy my first guitar this year. I think I'll be a 12 string Martin. Hotel California should sound great on it. Tana and I try to make it up to Boston at least once a year to visit the kids who are grown now, family and friends. We usually stay in Newport, RI. when we come up and we do day trips from there. In 2005 I went out to Indianapolis for my 35th 8th grade reunion. I only spent 7th and 8th grade out there, having moved from N.Y.C., but it had a major impact on my life. I found it to be an extremely emotional and wonderful experience. I think we're hitting that age where we're seeking out others that have shared our past and find new value in old friends. I know I am. Since your reading this you may feel the same so drop me a note. I'd be happy to hear from you! Oh BTW, I still believe in miracles and dreams that come true. The 2004 Red Sox! I went to my first redsox/yankee game at Fenway Park this year. Sox won 8-2 Life's been good and I'm looking foward to the next 50 9/19/09 Since writing this years ago...I bought a Martin 12 string, Hotel Calif. does sound great on it and now I'm trying to learn how to play "Whammer Jammer" (J, Geils) on the harmonica. I found a H.S. wrestling coach that lets me beat up on his wrestlers whenever I want. LOL He's an old dog like me!
