Jerry's Story
CJ and I will be celebrating our 42ndth wedding anniversary this December. We lived in Massachusetts for almost 20 years, moved to Connecticut for a couple, and have lived in northeast Maryland since 2001. We have no children and have fondly owned dogs and cats. Currently, a female cat owns us.
As of Aug. 2016, I transitioned into semi-retirement and moved to a consulting employee role with Leidos.
Workplace
My career began as a nuclear power qualified submariner in the US Navy. Subsequently, I worked at Polaroid Corporation around the Boston, MA area for 19 years where I held many jobs: production supervisor, process computer programmer, operations manager, product manager, chemical design engineer, environmental engineer, and development engineer. I moved to a position as VP Operations for an industrial laser company with locations in Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Then, in 2001 moved to northeastern Maryland working, as a professional chemical engineer, for SAIC in support of the US Army chemical weapons destruction prog...Expand for more
ram and providing chemical protective equipment for the joint services.
Military
I attended OCS in Newport, RI, the summer of 1974 (class7408), immediately after receiving my BS in ChE from Univ. Cinn. It was the first integrated COED class, and not a coincidence of where I met my wife CJ. Subsequently, I attended Poseidon Weapons Officer School at Damneck, VA where CJ and I married. Three days after we wed, CJ was transferred to Bermuda, and three weeks later, I began 6 months of Nuclear Power School at Mare Island, CA, followed by 6 months at the Nuclear Power Prototype in Idaho Falls, ID. (The reactors were located tens of miles out in the desert for safety. I returned east to attend submarine school at New London, CT. Finally 16 months after our wedding, CJ and I started our first home in Charleston, SC where we were together for 6-weeks before my first 3-1/2 month deployment. We remained in Charleston, where I alternated 3-1/2 months on a nuclear, ballistic missile submarine and 3 months at home, until my discharge in Feb 1979.
