Lynn's Story

LIFE: Widowed for 3 years. I was married for 2nd time for 20 years to a wonderful man 16 years my senior, Jerry. His 5 children are grown, 3 girls, 2 boys ranging in age from 48 down to 39. I have 2, Kim 36 and Katrina 34. Between us we have 21 grandchildren. No pets anymore. Currently (6/23/08) I am living with my teenage sweetheart, Tom Lee from Windsor, CT. I met him working on tobacco in '64. We dated that summer. He was my 1st love, my 1st kiss, my 1st broken heart and my 1st marriage proposal. He went to a private school, Austin Cate Academy in New Hampshire in September. I wrote but he never responded. We saw each other that Thanksgiving and only a phone call at Christmas. He was only home for a couple of days and went back to New Hampshire skiing with friends for the rest of Christmas break. He went into the Coast Guard in '67. Home on leave in January 68, he took me to dinner and proposed. Of course being in my senior year I said "NO" (besides we'd had no contact for 3 year!). He found me on Classmates.com in 1998. We corresponded via e-mail and caught up on each other's lives, families, careers, etc. He knew about my husband's failing health the last 5 years of his life and when Jerry died, Tom emailed at least once ever other week just to say Hi, he was thinking of me and offered an ear if I ever needed to talk. I didn't respond to him or ANYONE for that matter for at least a year. Then we started e-mailing on a regular basis and then went to instant messaging. He'd been living in Ohio the last 20 + years. He and his 28 year old son came out here on a ski trip and stayed with me. And we evolved from there and hear we are. I've posted our picture(s) in my profile. Gosh I can't believe I'm so in love. I thought I died with Jerry. Tom is such a wonderful, fun, intelligent, sensitive man. So physically fit that he look like late 40s to early 50s instead of 60. WORK: I was an unemployed Human Resources Administrator. The company I was with for 13 years moved its operations to Mexico. But now I am a Senior Secretary to 2 Assistant Principals at Queensbury High School Never a dull moment. I love working there. 5 minutes from home, great benefits, and great retirement. We lived in a completely renovated Horse Barn on 7 acres of land in Hudson Falls, NY. (50 miles north of Albany, at the foot of the Adirondack Mo...Expand for more
untains, on the border of Vermont and near Lake George. We sold the house due to Jerry's declining health and I now reside in an apartment in Queensbury, NY. No consistant hobbies. Always busy with family activites. Love spending time with the grandchildren and long rides in the country. Love to travel when I can afford it. I have family all over! (Minneapolis, MN; Sharpsburg, GA; Unadilla, NY; Potsdam, NY; Rochester, NY; Warren, OH; Port St. Lucie and Longwood, FL; and San Diego, CA. Love finding old classmates and catching up on the years. FROM THEN TO NOW: Out of high school I worked at Connecticut General Ins. Co., Bloomfield, CT for 2 years and left to start my family. A few years later I worked at CE Controls, Windsor, CT for 3 years and left to be at home with my children. I did daycare in my home for about 4 years. In 1978 we moved to upstate NY (Adirondacks). Worked for Voluntary Action Center for 8 1/2 years, updating their Tri-County Community Service Referral Manual and the Tri-County Club Directory. I did Volunteer Recruitment and Placement and coordinated the Meals on Wheels Program and the Senior Citizen Medical Trasportation Program. I implemented the County Alternative Sentence Program and coordinated the funding efforts to support that program. Also coordinated the Holiday Basket program and worked closely with Operation Santa Claus recruiting volunteers to shop for families, wrap gifts and do deliveries. It was a non-profit Human Services agency and although the work was very rewarding, I burned out. In 1989 I went to work for Sheridan Catheter Corp. in Argyle, NY as a Quality Assurance Secretary. In 1991 I accepted the Sr. Secretary position in Human Resources. We were bought by Tyco International LTD in Oct '94. In 1996 I became the HR Administrator. I loved the work, the people and the 15 minute comute. Tyco sold the Sheridan Tracheal Tube Manufacturing to Hudson RCI in October 2000. Their main office is in southern CA. With one manufacturing site in Encinada, MX, the decided to relocate our manufacturing to Tecate, MX. So 150 of us lost our jobs from Dec 2002 - March 2003. Because of my years of experience with the company and knowledge of the employees and the computer/payroll systems, I received a substancial salary increase, moderate bonus and 9 months severance including benefits, to stay to the end.
