Jerry Mills:  

Life After graduating from Valhalla, I worked there as a classroom aide and track/cross country coach for five years. I coached the first CIF champs in the school's history, girls' cross country in 1978. Also worked summer school jobs at Monte Vista and Granite Hills before giving up on going into education and changing career paths. I joined the San Diego Police Department in 1982 and was there for the next three decades. I worked as a patrol officer, a recruiting officer, and a detective in the Vice unit before being promoted to sergeant in December 1995. As a sergeant, I commanded a patrol squad, worked as the administrative sergeant of an area station, oversaw the management and development of the department's facilities, and spent four years as the coordinator for the Regional Academy. In August 2008, I was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and spent a couple years overseeing investigations and administration at the Department's Northern Division. After a short stint at our Northwestern Division, I returned to the Academy to oversee the Department's Training Division. In December 2012, I hung up my gunbelt for the last time and called it a career after 30 years. I married my wife, Julie (VHS class of 1980), in November 1980.
