Jerry's Story

Back in 53 or 54 I lived on the southside of ST Pete went to Lakeview grade school. Last time I heard it was called Nina Harris. eventually I ended up on the Northside of town and went to Tyrone Jr High then on to Dixie Hollins. some of the folks I knew were Steve Partington he was my best friend back then, Bill Lindsey almost as crazy as I was then, Vanda Bayliss shes an attorney now I knew Mike Sweeny He backed me up one day when some guy gave me the business in the pool room great football player to. I used to hang out at the Northwest Youth center played a lot of Pool back then. I knew Joe Petrocelli good guy to have on your side especially in football game. I knew Joe Burke biggest arms i ever saw. some may recall that I won the skating Marathon at the old out door skating rink on 66th street back in 63. continuous skating for 29 hours almost got in trouble. Larry Ladelfa good pool shooter was a friend of mine back then I knew Ron Purdom man could he jump. I knew Ray Murphy great drummer. these names just keep coming to me now, anyway. I joined the army after high school and went to vietnam...Expand for more
in 69 I was a member of the 101st Airborne Division during the 1969 campaigns there including operation Apache Snow. I was with the 501st battalion. I received a Bronze star and the Army Commendation medals. I spent 6 years in the Army all together and later married and we had a son who is presently a Major in the Army stationed at the pentagon for now. He won a Bronze star in Afghanistan last year. Very proud of my son. After the Army I became a butcher worked in LA for 10 years then went to FT Knox as a federal Butcher stayed there for 10 years then I came back to Fl and worked 11 years as a meter reader for Pasco county also vended Hot dogs on the beach weekends only for the past 12 years finally I retired last year. Living in Hudson Fl right now moving soon to ST Pete another Florida Retiree. I'm 63 now and holding. I was sorry to hear that Mr. Ron Hallam passed away. He was a great teacher (my science teacher) and I recall he was assistant principle at Tyrone when I was there to. most of the old timers that knew me were in the class of 66 but i ended up in the class of 67 .
