Jerry's Story
After HS Graduation I enrolled at Coffeyville CC and spent more time in the Pool Hall and the Student Union than attending classes. Enlisted in the US Navy December 1965. Married Sharon Driskel (class of 1966) on February 19, 1967 (we are still married). Two children, son Buddy (March 19, 1968) and Melissa (June 24, 1970). Raised them while traveling the world with US Navy: Newfoundland, Canada (Melissa was born), San Diego CA, Charleston SC, Rota Spain, Sardinia Italy, Guam, Yuma AZ to name a few. Retired from us Navy 1985. Used my GI Bill and earned a bachelor's degree at Northern Arizona University Flagstaff, AZ. Worked as a Probation Officer in Yuma, AZ then moved back to southeast Kansas (Cherryvale). After sometime back I began work as a Court Services Officer (Probation Officer) for the State of Kansas. rted drawing Social Security at age 62. Taught 7th and 8th grade one year at Tyro Christian School after retirement and it was a great privilege. I have continued attending school and earned another bachelor's degree from Messenger College Joplin, MO and a Masters of Practical Theology Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, OK. I successfully completed requirements for Addiction Counseling from Fort Hays State, Fort Hays, KS and became a Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) for Kansas. I completed certification through the Office of the Kansas Attorney General for doing Batterers Intervention Program and in 2015 started, own an operate Batterers Intervention Program LLC teaching peaceful family relations. My wife and I, after 55 years of marriage, are beginning to figure this out (still working on it). My priorities in order of importance is to love God, family, friends and country and try to maintain this in everything that I do.
