Jil's Story

It's 2008. I am in Albuquerque, have 3 kids, 2 in Middle School and one almost 3. The Balloon Fiesta is coming up in October and we always go. I get free tickets from work. I guess I should back up some, huh. Well, I moved to Cape Cod after college at PLU in Tacoma in 1989. Then after 3 months of cleaning toilets for the rich golfing set at a resort, I moved back to Alaska and did a brief stint at ARCO. Let's see, then I was a counselor at Salvation Army Booth Memorial Home, then went to the old Travel Academy for a 10-week (?) class. I worked for Fritz Co. out by the Airport at the FedEx hub and did that for 3 or 4 years. Then I met my now ex husband (at a bar) you can guess how that worked out. We bought a house on Colville Street, had 2 kids, Nicholas and Samantha, and then in 2000 we moved here to Albuquerque. We got divorced in 2001, and I moved from Corrales to Albuquerque with the kids. I got a job with the FAA at the Air Route Traffic Control Center as a Secretary, then in 2004 got a promotion and now I'm the Secretary for the Air Traffic Control Tower. It is so cool working here. I bring my kids sometimes and we go up to the tower and get out on the catwalk and watch the airplane traffic take off and land. Just last week I got to listen to the Air Traffic Controlers talk to the planes, and one...Expand for more
pilot was in a German Fighter Jet. Talk about a unique opportunity! The Tower is on Kirtland Air Force Base, so we get to see lots of fighter planes, huey's, all sorts of things that not everyone gets to experience. in 2003 I started Grad School for my MSW, and got about halfway through, but then I had another child and life just got really busy...like it wasn't already! School can wait, my kids can't and life doesn't slow down just because I think it should. So now, I've decided that my present goal is to raise these 3 kids; be here for them, be present in the moment, be happy and find peace within myself and be a positive model for my family and friends. My life hasn't turned out at all like I thought it would. But I am happy and I love my life. Grace is all around me, and I often tell others to pray this prayer "God, help me want what I already have." That way, I see my life as already having what I've always wanted; it puts me in a great frame of mind. Don't mistake me, I am not a spiritual guru, I still get pissed at the kids when they act their age(s), I get upset at myself for stupid stuff, and I don't want to get old! So, there it is, my life up to now. I hope everyone who visits my profile will drop a line. It's time for me to get re acquainted with old friends. Everyone take care! Jil
