Jill's Story

Hi everyone! High school was wonderful! It was great to have come through the UD school system and to graduate with friends I had known practically all my life! My best friend from 4th grade through 12th was Elaine Souders; we lived right down the street from each other. We had lots of adventures together! In school I was friendly with so many people I can't list them all. With a brother two years older, I knew a lot of his classmates, and with a younger sister and brother two years behind, I knew a lot of their classmates too. (My older brother, Joe, works on the Christmas holiday train exhibit at Brandywine Museum every year, and Miss Bassett, one of our class advisors, is still the Librarian there! Over 90 years old and still driving from her home to work herself!) Being part of Student Council put me in contact with some great people who became good friends. Being in Chorus (wasn't Dr. Dengler terrific?) in touch with still others. In Stenographic, still others! I have so many great memories of so many of my classmates I don't know where to begin. My father died when I was a junior, and that was a tough time for our family. Once I graduated, I went to work for PECo (took some night courses while working--then and throughout my working career of finally in total 34 years). I met my husba...Expand for more
nd, Lynn, at PECo. We married on 9/7/63. (We celebrate 46 years soon!) I continued to work at PECo until our first child was born in 1967. After our third child was in school full time (we have Chris, 42, Jan, 40, Doug, 37), I went back to work, first in our local township building as Deputy Township Clerk, and later at Northern Telecom, a telephone company from which I then retired (worked primarily in Human Resources, but then branched out to Operations and worked with the VP). Lynn and I are now proud grandparents of two little ones, Chance, age 5, and Grace, almost 3, whom we see many times a week. Lynn and I spend most of our winter in our condo in Naples, FL, and the rest of the time in our house in Shamong, NJ (where we have lived for 42 years). Lynn was our Township Clerk part time for 30 years and when he retired from PECo, he became Township Administrator full time. He retired from that career a couple of years ago. We are both doing great and loving retirement, thank the good Lord. We recently got together with Carol Worley Adams and Les Adams, and Lynne Robinson Jones and her husband, Clark, at Les and Carol's in Mechanicsburg, PA. We are still in touch and good friends. We are all looking forward to our 50-year high school reunion! Can't believe it! Have all those years gone by?
