Jill's Story

I've done so many things the last 50 years, it almost makes my head swim to write it down! But, here goes... After a year at the University of Georgia majoring in Music Therapy, I left to marry. I had a son, Brock, in 1972, and cherished my time as a mother, however divorced after 5 years. At age 38, I returned to school (my son and I attended the same college at the same time) and received my BA in Psychology in 1996. I then went on to private schooling to obtain my license as a professional hypnotherapist and metaphysical life counselor, and earned a Doctorate in Metaphysics. Beginning in my Senior year in high school, I worked for ten years as an entertainer (singer/guitarist) on the nightclub circuit in Atlanta at places like the Hyatt and the Radisson. I have continued to perform throughout the years including shows for children in California schools, and performing for churches, city events, and in senior retirement homes. In the '80s, I published three children's albums (now CDs) of original songs that promote self-esteem and positive values. They were sold internationally through Unity School of Christianity and my company Two Wings Publishing. I have a site where you can hear songs from two of my albums at Broadjam.com/Jillian Boldway. I lived in Prospect, KY, right on the Ohio River outside of Louisville for several years in the '80s. During that time, aside from being a mother, I taught aerobics for five years (my students called it "Jill-ercise") and worked for an advertising firm writing jingles and copy for radio and TV ads, and even performing the singing and voice-overs for those ads (did you ever hear the "HairCrafters" jingle?). I moved to California in 1986. From 1991 until 2000, I worked for Callaway Golf Company in Carlsbad, CA, north of San Diego. I developed the Corporate Communications department during their initial public offering, and created/produced the company magazine and other publications. I also created and conducted tours through the manufacturing plants, the test center, and the research and development center. I was the PR person for visitors and during that time I met many famous celebrities who came to see how the top-of-the-line golf clubs were made. I not only met famous movie stars, but well-known politicians, sports stars, recording stars, and international heads-of-state. It was a blast! Unfortunately, Callaway became too "corporate" after having such enormous success, and the environment changed to where it was no longer enjoyable to be there. Even Mr. Callaway left. So, I gracefully made my exit and after a year off doing some traveling (loved Ireland and exploring Egypt!), I worked for a psychiatrist in Del Mar, CA, which fit well with my degree in Psychology. In October of 2003, I was ready to leave expensive California, so I moved to Prescott, AZ, to do something adventurous. I founded Prescott Trolley Company which provided Old West historic tours (complete with Western costumes), wine-tasting tours to an organic vineyard, and day tours to beautiful Sedona and the old mining town of Jerome. It was so much fun (though exhausting) and brought out the ham in me! Pres...Expand for more
cott was known as the "Christmas City" and so at Christmastime we ran "Holiday Lights Trolley Tours" and were booked solid every night, two to three tours per night, for three weeks! At Halloween, we of course ran "Haunted Halloween Trolley Tours," visiting the old cemeteries in town and telling tales of ghosts in some of the historic buildings. Spooky! In 2006, I was adventured-out, and moved to Cave Creek, AZ, (near Phoenix - too hot!) where I reluctantly ventured back into the corporate world, taking a job with TriWest Healthcare (they administer military health benefits) as a writer in their Executive and Strategic Communications department. I was the ghost writer for the CEO and also wrote articles for the Intranet. I worked for them for more than a year, then moved back to CA to be near my grandkids, still working remote for a while. Since 1998, I've worked on the side as a Certified Hypnotherapist and Spiritual Counselor in both Phoenix and San Diego. I plan to continue this line of work and build up my private practice as I enjoy helping people. I am currently writing a book about spirituality. In September of 2010, I moved back to Atlanta and worked at the Georgia Aquarium for a while. That was really fun! After much training and classes, I enjoyed getting on mic and tell the guests all about the animals. I was also there when they first started doing the Dolphin shows which was exciting. Then in 2012 I was offered a great job in Seguin, Texas (near San Antonio), as the Director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the city. I was there for four years and loved promoting the town and special events such as our annual Pecan Festival. I also started Ghost Tours there and conducted them myself (there is a YouTube video of the tour), so I had a blast. I finally decided to retire and moved to San Antonio to be with my current beau, Randy. We will soon be building a home together in the Texas Hill Country. Over the years I've taken up a few hobbies besides music. I love Country Line Dancing and love to hike, travel and take photos. Randy and I are in the local corvette club and do drives and travel caravans with a group of corvette owners. We also love going up into the hill country of Texas, about an hour away, where there are dozens of great wineries. Not only is the wine tasting delicious, but the scenery is beautiful! I also continue to perform for seniors at assisted living and memory care homes. It is very fulfilling and keeps my guitar fingers polished! Currently, even though I'm technically retired, I work remotely producing the newsletter for both the Texas Federation of Republican Women and my local club, Bexar County Republican Women. I use Adobe InDesign to create and publish the newsletters. I'm enjoying this part time work! So, I don't know, do you think I've done enough in the last 50 years? Well, I keep wondering what I can try next! Ha! I'll probably die still thinking I haven't experienced this or that. But, one thing I do know - the love of my son and my grandchildren, well, I couldn't ask for more. And that's something I'll be taking with me when I go. And, it will definitely be enough.
