Jill's Story
Lived several lives...
Spent most of the late 80's & early 90's partying backstage with hair bands and doing neuroscience research. Dated the wrong sort of guy. Dabbled in pottery, painting and sculpture for a few years. Flailed around in school with no serious direction. Moved to LA, hated it, and came back in less than a year. Almost went into space with my research team. By the late 90's I had contracted the rock climbing bug and gave up most of my other hobbies to climb 24/7. Still dated the wrong sort of guy. Still partying, except began making my own beer. Continued to work in neuroscience research that evolved into pharmacology/toxicology. Moved to DC (Adams Morgan) for 7 years and began studying philosophy and ethics at Georgetown...Expand for more
. Dropped science career and began working in climbing industry--which promptly sucked all the life out of what I had once loved. Continued dating the wrong sort of guy, but eventually future husband too. Started my Masters in philosophy and ethics at Georgetown. Became a fuddy, home-body who likes to read and never even thinks about partying. Had several terrible, depressing joe-jobs for several years--including substitute teaching biology/chemistry/physics at Richard Montgomery HS. (I mean what do you do with a philosophy degree?!) Recently, bought a house and got married to my long-time beau, a science geek at NIST. Got a job in research ethics in human subjects protections at NIH. Finally, happy as a clam and working on the next lifetime.
