Jill's Story

Life My Spouse I met my husband while living in Massachusetts. I was teaching disco, yes, disco, at a local club and he was a bouncer. He moved to Maryland to be on the Capitol Police Department and I eventually moved to Maryland and we got married in 1984. It has been the best decision I have ever made! He is now working on the Howard County Police Department. My Pets Our cat, Muffin, is a very fiesty Calico. We also have another cat, Precious. They love to torment each other. Anything in the house is fair game as a toy. Muffin and Precious got a new "toy" in March when we adopted a Yorkie-poo named Rocky. My Kids They are great kids! Interests include music, art, cheerleading, sports My "Other Kids" We sponsor about 5 midshipmen from the Naval Academy. They spend weekends at the house whenever they are able. We give them a home away from home and taxi service to and from the yard and to the airport. They are truly a part of our family! My Job I am an administrative assistant for Howard County Economic Development. I enjoy it because I get to do a variety of things within the county. I most enjoy helping our Agriculture Specialist with her projects. I am also now helping the BRAC Executive Director. Weekends from late August to late October, you can find me working at the Maryland Renn Fest in Crownsville. I have been working a pottery booth there for about 5 years. It is more fun than work. The location is beautiful, especially in the fall when the air is crisp and the leaves are changing colors. My husband, daught...Expand for more
er and I are members of Baltimore's Marching Ravens. 2007 is the 60th anniversary of the band. We have a blast. Practice is held at the New multi-million dollar Ravens training facility and we are able to go to all of the home games. This year, 2007, we will be marching in the Macy's Parade. I'm also active with my church, mostly with the Sunday School. You may have seen our family on Inside Edition in April 2005, speaking out on having a gay child, whom we love and support unconditionally. It is not a choice - It is not a lifestyle - It is how he was born! My husband, daughter and I try to march in the DC and Baltimore PRIDE parades with PFLAG every year to show our support and love to all. Blessings! School My favorite teachers - in elementary school it was Mr. Gibson. He was an incredible teacher that made learning fun! Mr. Derr (Jr. High) and Mr. Ebert (Sr. High) were great math teachers and Ray Kodish was just fun for homeroom (even though I spent homeroom in the library). Will always miss Bette Jo Erbe and her dog Freya, and will always cherish the handmade basketball plaque she gave to each of us her last year at SF. One of my favorite memories from high school was the Thanksgiving Day game November of 1973 when we won the Ches-mont league football championship. How terrific to have that happen in your senior year. Riding through town in the busses with the windows down - it was like winning the Super Bowl. Band trips, competitions and football games were always fun, which is why I enjoy working with the Baltimore Ravens Band.
