Jill's Story
Life
Hello fellow Bears...what a great site to reconnect with old friends. Please get in touch with me and we'll chat about the "good old days at JM". Some of you may remember my brother, Randy Murphy, who also graduated in 1972. Randy is still in Oklahoma City living with my dad in the Village....some things never change. Many of you see him walking to and from destinations....so if you come across him, stop and say hello and re-introduce yourselves. I'm sure he'll remember you....he's got an amazing memory.
As for me, I left Oklahoma soon after graduating from OSU....first to Baton Rouge and then married and moved to Texas. An overseas transfer led to a short assignment in Northern England followed by a five year assignment in Stavanger, Norway. My son Brandon was born there in 1981. 1984 found us on the move again to Santa Barbara, CA and the land of oranges and avocados....strange to have these in your garden instead of roses and mimosa trees like in Oklahoma. 1988 found us back in Oklahoma....Bartleville and the home of Phillips Petroleum Company. 1990...a divorce and relocation to Tulsa started my career in real estate appraisal work which I still tinker with today. I remarried in 1992 and gained three step sons....three daughter-in-laws and eventually, ten grandkids! The grandkids call me the "extra-grandama"....and who couldn't use an extra granny. 1997 found us on the move again to Moscow, Russia where my husband, Jerry, was sales director for an oil service company selli...Expand for more
ng drilling equipment to Russian Oil Companies. Commuting from Moscow to Siberia was much easier than the commute from Tulsa to Siberia. We say many changes during our 7 years in Moscow....the birth of a nation, good and bad. Glad we are friends with the former Soviets instead of in the bullseye of their nuclear weapons. Jerry spent his time working on massive equipment contracts and I spent my time working with several children's charities and a Christian Women's Ministry. We started building a log cabin in Pagosa Springs, Colorado shortly before 9/11. We completed the cabin and moved in March 2002 but continued to travel to Moscow. We are now semi-retired and enjoying the elk, deer, and bear that frequent our cabins....so we make sure the doors are always locked.
Our joy remains our children and their children and the many visits they make to see us. "If you build it, they will come" said Kevin Costner....he was right. My son will soon be graduating from Texas Tech Law School. Our other sons live in Tulsa 2) and Austin, TX. We now have ten grandkids! I run my own business called the RUSSIA HOUSE COLLECTION and import linen products from Russia. Check out our eBay store - RUSSIA HOUSE COLLECTION.
We are still working on the cabin....a new hobby but enjoying our new location, a great little town with hot springs. Hope all is well in your world....give us a shout! I'm back in Oklahoma City often to tend to my folks so maybe we can reconnect. Cheers, Jill Murphy Phillips
