Jill's Story
Life
After college (Chatham) and grad school (University of Arizona) I married a guy named Bill Underhill (because of the obvious benefits of rhyming with your spouse) and moved to Texas in 1990. I did some singing and theater in Houston before Schlumberger transferred Bill to Germany, where we enjoyed nearly five years of gallivanting around Europe.(We visited England, Norway, Greece, Italy,The Czech Republic, the Canary Islands, skied in France, Austria, and Switzerland, and took a cruise to St Petersburg, Russia, during the White Nights.) I sang light opera with a touring company in Germany, too.
After our return to Texas in 1996, I taught voice lessons in the public schools and started another graduate degree, in counseling, which I did not complete because I kept getting pregnant! Will was born in 1998, Charlie in 2000. We bought some land and built our dream home in Richmond, Texas, where we lived happily until Schlumberger sent us to Japan in 2002, which was a real trip! (Ask me anything you need to know about flying for fourteen hours with two toddlers. I did it, roundtrip, four times a year ...Expand for more
for two years!)
We lived in Yokohama, where I performed with a local theater group. We traveled to Guam, Thailand, Australia, and skied Sahoro, Japan. Bill and I climbed Mt. Fuji, pretty fast, and I now know what they mean by "altitude sickness". We returned to our home in Texas in the beginning of 2005.
After practicing a little yoga since the early nineties and running way too much and lifting more weights than necessary, I stopped the latter two and dedicated myself to my yoga practice. I highly recommend this for any chick having her "40" crisis. Now I have an enthusiastic practice and enjoy many styles of yoga.I teach yoga at the YMCA and at a country club, and my students include a feisty bunch of senior citizens. (Who's teaching who?)
We like life here in The Lone Star State. Bill really enjoys gardening, and we are always busy with the boys' activities, including lots of baseball and scouting. The summers are loooong, so we just put in a pool to ease the heat.
In spring of 07 I saw the Dalai Lama and heard him speak at Rice University!
That's all, for now! Best wishes to all my classmates!
