I moved to Salem, Oregon in '77 and have been within 20 miles of there ever since (now Dallas, OR). My life has revolved primarily around children. I have had 3 of my own: Melanie who had a rare children's cancer (1979-1982), then Ashley in 1985 and Dustin in 1987. Their father and I divorced when they were toddlers so I ran a daycare out of my home for 10 years to take care of them. Now I'm raising my niece Bethany (born in 2003). She's been with me most of her life and I will have guardianship of her until she is 18. Ashley gave me a precious grandson in 2008. I've been married to Ron Gentry since 1999. He became a long haul truck driver over 7 years ago so I feel like a single...Expand for more
parent again. I've been doing volunteer work in the family strengthening, child abuse prevention arena on community, state and national levels since 1992. Serving on several boards, work groups, steering committees and a National Parent Leadership Team have given me the opportunity to learn through experience and to travel to many of our United States. I've become a trainer and presenter particularly around the topics of parent support, Shared Leadership and community based efforts. I've also had my own housekeeping business since 2000. Now I'm working on starting a paid career in human services since I no longer have a young one at home all day. This should be an interesting transition at 50:) Well, there's the nutshell version for anyone interested.
