Jim's Story
In '64 when I was en tering Jeff, I was taking Space Science at summer school before my freshman year (I sure needed those credits later!) In '64 there were 3 new breakthroughs in Science- Transistors, Lasers, and Fiber optics. Look at the computers now in less than 50 years!
We had sone great teachers! Mr. Edward Yamaguchi made sure my algebra was up to par, and even showed us what chi was. During lunch, Mr. Yamaguchi could be seen sparring with Mr. Robert Lualhati in their Gi's and black belts.I had Mr. Lualhati for gym class and for later years on the track team. Mr. Lualhati was always impressive, doing the excercises along with the gym class as he called them out. I was lucky enough to have Mr. Ed Cereghino as my baseball team coach, who helped me pitch with his NY Yankees pitching experience.
In '65, following the Beatles success, me and half the country were just learning guitar. I teamed up with Rich Burr, the chemistry award winner to play music. I'm still playing when I can.
'66 was reserved for girls.
In '67 Mr Boyd saved our cross country team from being of unknown notoriety and turned us into winners, both on and off the field. We ran races at football during half time so that we finally began to have spectators. That changed after taking first place. Ken Starr and Johnny Vernazza (who played with Elvin Bishop) played...Expand for more
high school dances.
In '68 Mr. Silberstein helped me with my Physics and questions about the universe, while Mr. Lipson helped with questions on reality during English. Clapton and The Cream changed the way guitar was played this year. While practicing my blues, I flunked US History. That's OK Mr. Conroy.
Best Regards to teachers, graduates and non-graduates of the 1968 class!
Life Summary:
I've been married to my wife Cathy for 33 years. I have 3 fantastic children: 2 daughters and 1 son, all
university graduates.
I was at the brunt of the sixties movement for change, lived as a "hippie" musician for a lifetime, another lifetime at the phone company. My last corporate job at Oracle Corp. was as Senior Telecommunications Engineer and Data Networks Engineer. Now I have a small telecommunications business-"CoopTek".
Interests: I didn't see these on the list:
-Long-winded stories
-Hydrogen Power and Science: Ever since I wondered about using hydrogen from Water. Even though Mr. Braun, my '66 chemistry teacher said it was "perpetual motion" and wouldn't work, I've been researching hydrogen as a fuel ever since.
-Inventing: Every month I have a new idea. I've always been a dreamer; Inventions, solutions, and songs. That's what I do.
Playing Music as an entertainer: I love to play and sing for audiences, especially dance music!
