Jim 's Story

After a very short stint at CSU, I started working at the North Star Drive In Theatre. That's where I met my wife Pat (her brother is Garry Anderson). Then, in order to move up in the world, I started as a janitor at Mountain Bell. Easy to stay employed there and plenty of opportunity to learn new things. Next assignment was cable repair. That lasted about 7 more years (up to 9 now) then they trained me to be a computer programmer (now you know why your phone bills are so screwed up). Ended up spending the rest of my "career" in data systems, eventually moving (in 1991) to the Seattle area. I 'retired' in 2001 after serving for 31 years, just before Nachio tanked the company. I then goofed around for a while, spent a year working in Home Depot's plumbing department, 2 years selling real estate for RE/MAX, 2 years doing structural/pest home inspections, and now am back in the IT world working for the University of Washington Medical Center doing server placements and monitoring. Along the way we had 2 daughters. Danielle is now in her late 30s, is living in the Seattle area with her mate Brian and 3 children. Britney is 17, loves dance and theatre, and is going to Europe for 4 weeks this summer. Hanna is 14, and depending on the day of the week has various hair colors, and is very artistic. Zachary is 8 going on 40. He gets bored very easily except when on the computer. He's probably smarter than all of the r...Expand for more
est of us put together. Our second daughter is Jamie, who is in her late 20s and also lives not far away with her husband Nick. They just had a daughter Adelaide who is now about 10 months old. What a kick she is to be around. My hobbies include stained glass, woodworking and furniture re-finishing, gardening, toaster collecting and restoring(see pics), home remodeling and repair, sailing occasionally, and powered parachuting, also occasionally. Walking along the beach and visiting and photographing lighthouses are also current interests, probably because there were no such things in Colorado, so they fascinate me. I have also been known to design and sew up a quilt or two, mostly for gifts. Past hobbies/pastimes included: photography, snow skiing, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, fly fishing, camping and hiking. Just because the topic seems to be discussed in most profiles, here are the cars I've owned: 4 different VW bugs, Toyota Celica, Ford Club Wagon (van), a '72 Monte Carlo, '54 Chevy pickup, another Ford van, a GMC Jimmy, a 70 Honda CB450, a 73 Honda CB750, a 76 Honda Goldwing, and now an '84 Subaru Brat (my daily driver) and a '97 Ford Explorer ball and chain. The Brat is kept alive thanks to my brother Joel who owns his own Subaru repair shop in Broomfield call Alternative Autoworx. He is so good he can fix my car over the phone. If you think this isn't enough, drop me a line and I'll tell you more.
