Jim's Story

Lfe since graduating Cubberley: Went to work as a teamster at University Dodge, Palo Alto. Six months later, joined the Air Force. Saw tours of duty in Oklahoma, Vietnam, and Delaware. Married Bobbie Koontz (of Colorado Springs) in '67. Completed service and reentered school (Foothill College) in '69. Transferred to Humboldt State University and graduated in '75 with BS in Forest Management. Realized how much I missed the bonds of military friendship and reenlisted in 1976. I was later enticed by the US Army (after a short stint with the Infantry and Air Defense Artillery branches) to join the Intelligence Corps, as an Imagery Analyst, and I remained in that career field until being promoted to First Sergeant. Army tours of duty included Germany, Korea and stateside ( Georgia, Arizona, and Washinton State, where I chose to retire). After retiring from the Army in '92, worked as a Forestry T...Expand for more
ech but couldn't make a living wage at it. So, found work in '94 with Fred Meyer, a major Northwest retailer, and worked there for 16 years (once again, as a Teamster). In February of 2006, I lost Bobbie to a Multi-Resistant Staph Infection (MRSA). After suffering with a bout of depression for a couple years, rediscovered my zest for life with a kindred spirit; Judy (who some of you met in Santa Cruz during our 45th and 50th class reunions). Retired in August, 2010 and in October of that year, we were married. We sold my place in Chehalis and moved into hers near Tacoma, during the fall of 2011, and life just keeps getting better. Hope you're enjoying the journey as much as I am. Great fishing (or other blisses) to you and, please, take care of each other as the rest is just dust in the wind anyway! You can find me on FB, if you like at "jim.harrop.50"~~Cheers to you all! (reposted Sept., 2015).

Another beautiful morning; headed toward the salmon grounds on the The Gold Rush (August 5, 2015)
This is the bright red color normally associated with Silver Salmon. This King Salmon attained the color by eating a lot of shell fish; as indicated by the amount of shrimp found in it's belly. Looks like it's cedar plank t
Trolling off the coast of Westport, WA onboard the Scooter, trying to break in my new Lamiglas rod on some salmon. Success came, but it was a rough slog before I got that first fish!!
