Jim's Story

Soon after leaving Beavercreek in 1964 I joined the Army, served a tour in Vietnam, and was discharged in 1967. After returning home for a year, I then traveled to California and made it my home until 2002. I love California. It is a beautiful place full of great memories. I graduated from California State University at Los Angeles in 1977. I worked in two school districts from 1980 to 2002. I retired as an Assistant Superintendent of Business in 2002 from Washington Unified School District in West Sacramento, California. In 1989 upon leaving my school district job in Southern California. I took a break from life and moved to San Luis Obispo, California, up on the central coast, to deal head on with my change of life crisis. I lived there for 18 wonderful months. I have often said It was the best time of my life. I had a few off and on odd, meaningless jobs, got fired from one, drew unemployment, and hung out on the many beaches in that area from Big Sur, to San Simeon, down to Santa Barbra. Once I started to run out of cash it was time I got back to work. That is when I started my job at Washington Unified School District ...Expand for more
for the next 11 years. It was a very rewarding career, but dealing with the politics as an administrator in a school district took away from the real purpose, that of educating students. I retired at the relative young age of 55 in 2002. Six months after retiring I started my life long dream of traveling around the world. My first destination in September, 2002, was Costa Rica. I traveled around for a month enjoying the country. Then I traveled up the northern coast and came to the little town of Tamarindo. I never left. I bought a condo on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean and here I stay. I travel back to Ohio (Beavercreek, Kettering area) every 2 to 3 years to visit siblings (Carolyn, Joann, and Bob) and their families. I visit my friends that I have stayed in touch with over the years. I also visit Southern California every year to visit with my two sons, David and Jason. Well that's my story in a nutshell. Of course all of the many times in between the episodic events mentioned above are filled with the ups and downs of living life on a daily basis, overall life has been good. I wish you all the best.
