Jim's Story

Life I have been married for 13 years to Lynne we have 3 children. Austin, Bradain and our little girl Savannah. Savannah's adoption should be final this Aug. We live in Lakevilla in what I thought was my dream home, 5 hours a week to cut the grass on a tractor as gotten a little old. I think of my self as a very luckey man. In 1999 Bradain was born with his lungs not wanting to work, He pulled threw and is a very good baseball player. 3 months later Lynne was found to have hochkins in stage 2 (canser), It was touch and go for a while and she gave it one hell of a fight and beat it. 17 day's later my oldest Austin was found to have lukemia, We got luckey and found he had it early, 3 years of visits to Children's in Chicago he was given a clean bill of health. I know how can you say your luckey, Very easy. They are still alive and doing well. Austin is hard hitting football player and both love school. Military 10 years of service in the army can take up a lot of room. I signed up in 85. Went to basic, advanced infantry training and airborne school at Ft Bening, Ga. My first unit was the 82 nd airborne divsion, Ft bragg, NC. I loved being a paratrooper. Iwent to some good schools from Bragg, Ranger school, Mountin warfare Alaska, Jump master school and a leadership course. re fun. I went to Germany. Did a few real would missions there and then Iraq Invaded Kawait. I landed in Saudi on Chrismas eve and was on the boarder by New years eve. On the 24 of Feb my unit was point going in to Iraq and was in some ugly fights. I earned a bronze star for my actions in a town called Al basia, For some reason they liked that town and didn't want to give it up. We change there minds. The next day my division was in a fight with 2 units of the Replican gaurd and we took out 600 plus Tanks, A.P.C. and truck. It looked like hell on earth. After that we kept on moving on up north, We picked up more p.o.w.'s then we could handle. So we would give them a case of m.r.e.'s (food) and a case of water and told them to wait here. We had a few more fights and cleared out some more bunkers until the cease fire was called. The night of the cease fire we had something happen that was very sad. An Iraqei armor unit with infantry was moving in front of our postion and we think they didn't know about the cease fire. Our side fired a flare and they fire on us. We unloaded on them with everything we had. The rest of the night was filled with explosions and fire from the fire fight. The next morning we when to clear the area and see if we could help anyone, They were all gone. After that we stayed in Iraq for almost a month running road blocks and driving around blowing up what ever still worked.
