Jim's Story

I am in the Boise area(for the 2nd time). I have been here this time since 1993. Right after high school, I went to cooking school at bsu and decided I did not want to cook for the rest of my life like I did at the Biscuitroot Park during high school. I moved back to Moscow and worked a few odd jobs, which ironically were mostly cooking jobs. While back in Moscow, I became a member of the Fire Department. That led to a job working as an EMT for an abulance company in the Seattle/Tacoma area and living in a fire station as a resident volunteer Firefighter/EMT in Graham, which is just south of Puyallup, Washington. The resident gig was not bad, but only paid room and $240 a month and the EMT job was pretty short lived as I got my first taste of downsizing when the company was bought out by what is now the largest ambulance company in the country. While living in the fire station, I had what I suspect would be a million dollar view if it was from the master bedroom of a house. I opened my window every morning to see a picture perfect view of Mt Rainer in the distance. Bills were piling up, as they do when you're a slacker chasing the dream of a job as a full time firefighter and there are 100's if not 1000's of applicants for each opening. Well, the bank of mom and dad called and said maybe it's time for you to get a real job. With that, I packed my car and headed to Boise where both my brother and sister were living. As I drove over the passes in Oregon on I-84 in near blizzard conditions in Dec...Expand for more
ember on my way to Boise, I asked myself why I was moving again? Then a mental picture of my mom with a list of the $$$ I owed them popped into my head. That's right...Keep going east. A few odd jobs in Boise, and I found a job I thought would be a career... I worked for Pepsi (Nagel Beverage) for about six years until I hurt my back on the job. That was in Feb of 1999. I had back surgery right before the class of 89' ten year reunion and again in 2003. All is good with the back now, just need a reminder not to play ice hockey after you've already had one back surgery :) I am currently employed by Micron Technology here in Boise. I have been with Micron for almost 9 years. I have survived three reorganizations, the last one in August, 2008. I am one of the lucky ones that is still there. And hoping it lasts! I got married September 26th, of this year and we are expecting our first little bundle of joy on or around May 20th :) We Should have a christmas suprise as our 20 week appointment and ultrasound is December 23rd. I say Boy and my wife Deana says girl? We are kind of hoping for a little girl as my brother and sister both have 2 boys each. Actually grandma is lobbying pretty hard for a little girl to spoil :) We are very excited as this is a first child for both of us. Nothing like getting a late start, but better late than never. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the MHS Class of 89 Reunion. Anyone in the Boise area, or anywhere for that matter should say hi, so we can keep in touch.
