Jim's Story
I never saw myself as an integral part of the class of "68" which caused me to go my own way for most of the rest of my life. After 3 years in the military during which I was a co-pilot flying reconnaissance aircraft in Viet Nam, I traveled back and forth to Alaska for 4 years. This was followed by approximately 15 years of traveling up and down the western United States and Canada working as a Union carpenter. I bought my first business in 1994 and semi-retired in 2000. In 2007 I came dangerously close to dying which was predicted to me in 1966 by Deanna Rapp's mother. This was a turning point for me. I started looking outside of the United States for travel and adventure....Expand for more
I've been to China 6 different times for a total time spent of of about 2 1/2 years. I speak Mandarin well enough to get by. I've seen more things there than most Chinese people, again, not all good. But all in all, the people are great and the sights are incredible.
I hadn't been too successful in marriage up to that point, but when I met my wife, Xingmei, in a northern city called Harbin (the Ice Capitol of the World), I finally found the woman I had been hoping for. She is truly a treasure. We've been married for over 5 years now and I could not ask for a better companion. We own a home in China and here in Southern Oregon. With her in my life, I have finally found the peace and stability that I've looked for since I left home.
