Jim's Story
Attended OCC right out of high school. While in second year got drafted. Low lottery number, 56. However, after quitting my job and dropping out of school, two weeks before reporting to the bus, they called off the draft. Someone was suing the government stating that the draft was illegal.
Not sure what was going to happen and tired of waiting around to find out, I acquired another job. Worked for about a year then realized, that the government either lost my paperwork or didn’t want me anymore, YES!
Went back to school and obtained my degree in Radiology. Worked at Mission Hospital my entire career and ended up as head ...Expand for more
of the CT department. Very busy trauma and stroke center. Loved what I did and really enjoyed working with the out patients.
Got involved with cycling and did some masters racing in So Cal. Did some century rides with the Leukemia Society’s Team N Training program, eventually, becoming a coach with the organization.
Obtained my Expert Coaching License from USA Cycling and coached several riders in the So Cal area. Stopped racing when I was involved in a serious accident.. I think in knocked some sense in me.
I now collect, restore and sell eighties road bikes. I still ride, although, not with the crazy groups anymore.
