Jim's Story

Attended Temple University; lived most of post-college life in California/Oregon; Aspired, for a while, to become Jack Kerouac; Worked as Lumberjack (Oregon); Commercial Fisherman (CA); Taxi Driver (San Francisco); Returned to college (1978-1979) to study Information Technology; Was 'there' at the birth of the Personal Computer revolution; Worked as programmer/analyst for many years; Currently working as internet developer (WebSphere/Java); Planning move to U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Croix); Married for 20+ years to a fine woman from upstate NY - my soulmate .... 2007 update - "in one moment your life can change forever" In June of 2005 my beautiful wife, Leslie, suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. She spent five weeks in the Intensive Care Unit at the Thomas Jefferson Hospital of Neuroscience in Philadelphia. Three times in those first few days the doctors told me that she would probably not live more than the next few hours. Fortunately, they were wrong. o in North Miami Beach - we will move there in spring of 2008 - I grew up in Miami - 3rd through the 9th grades. Returning to a somewhat familiar place is reassuring to me. Miami is the gateway to the Caribbean - it has a rhythm and a color that it did not have when I lived there in the 1950s and early 1960's. I will not miss working in Information Technology. 25+ years of 'coding' to the changing paradigms is more than enough for me. Soon days will be spent in the sun and by the ocean and reading all those books that I never got the chance to read (have you read Tom Robbins' - "Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates?" He is, without doubt, the best (living) American author. ... 2009 update - made it to Miami (North Miami) We have a 14th floor ocean view / Biscayne Bay view condo - small but nice (see pictures). The move was hectic as were the first few months. Of late I have come to appreciate that line from the "Abby Road" album, "But, Oh that magic feeling, nowhere to go"... ... ... ... ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Look homeward, angel, tell me what you see - do the ones I used to know remember me?"
