s 32.9 points per game. Fresno State beat Georgia Tech in the Humanitarian Bowl that year and had a 9-4 record for the season. Even in light of all prior achievements, the highlight of McElwain’s career has been his position of offensive coordinator at the University of Alabama. For his first term as coach in 2008, the team finished the regular season with a 12-0 record. In 2009 the team went into post season undefeated and beat the number one ranked team in the country, the Florida Gators, in the SEC Championship game. During the game the team reached 490 yards of offense which is more than twice what the Gator’s defense had given up all year. The University of Alabama then went on to win 2 national championships; the first against the Texas Longhorns in the 2010 BCS National Championship and the second against the LSU Tigers in the 2012 BCS National Championship (21-0). During his time at the University of Alabama, McElwain also sent two players the Heisman Trophy ceremony. Mark Ingram took the trophy in 2009 and Trent Richardson was a finalist in 2011.
