Jim's Story
I moved to Chicago in 1979 to start a career with McDonald's PR firm. After a few years, I switched back to advertising. I worked for some of the biggest agencies in the world, and eventually co-owned a mid-sized integrated communications firm. Nearly nine years of that convinced me being an employer with lots of employees did not suit me.
Since 1995 I've owned a brand strategy consulting company called In's & Out's, LLC. I consult as a sole practitioner, or in tandem with other consultants such as organizational development specialists, and through a network of freelance and subcontract workers. Brand strategy is the stuff that preceeds marketing. I do a lot of work with universities, nonprofits, individual business owners, and some global companies. My client mix is very diverse. All of my engagements are by referral.

Chesterton. With our kids grown we are considering a to move, most likely, we'll find another small town adjacent to a large metro area in another part of the country.
The commute to Chicago is under an hour. Most of my clients are in other parts of the country so where I live has little impact on my business. I also do speaking engagements, group facilitations, and workshops around the country on a variety of brand and business related topics.
Over the past 20 years, I have served as president or chairman of 25 different nonprofits.
Soccer has always been a big part of my life. In addition to coaching for over 30 years at various levels of the game including a stint at Nothwestern University and serving as the chairman of the board of World Cup Chicago 1994, and a host of other soccer related roles, I am an online guest columnist for Soccer America and its various "Insider" publications. In June of '14 I began coaching a girls high school team.
