James's Story

Life When I left North Kingstown in the middle of my senior year, I moved to CA with my parents and was very hard to get along with for a long time. At the last minute I enrolled in a small midwestern college instead of enlisting in the military. By the time I graduated, I was married with one daughter. I took the first job I could get and ended up working for Social Security in New Haven, CT. My job took me back to MO, then to IA and finally to WI where I retired after 41 years as a public affairs specialist. I have three grown children and five grandchildren. My wife and I spend our time in WI in the summer and FL in winter. We have boats in both places and fish Lake Michigan for Salmon and the Gulf of Mexico for everything. I hunt WI, IA, MO, and WY each fall. We've had Labrador Retrievers since 1967 until our last dog died April 2006. I borrow my kids' Labs to hunt with now. My wife and I both retired May 2006. All three of our kids have moved back to Janesville, WI where we live so we won't be leaving here permanently. Neithe...Expand for more
r of us golf. We'll take that up when we get old! Our political views are conservative. We like to entertain and the Salmon we catch in Lake M are the main course for several dinner parties on our deck in the summer. A river runs through our town and we use one of our boats, a 1966 Boston Whaler Nauset, for wine and cheese cruises with friends a couple of evenings a week in summer. I get back to Wickford when I can and I like to look up Roger Walsh from the class of '60 when I'm there. I heard from John Mixon and Jerry Rian via e-mail a couple of years ago. We're enjoying our retirement but I'm always a little lonesome for Wickford and the East Coast. My wife of 52 years, Marty, died this past April of an untreatable pulmonary disease. We had 10 years of retirement enjoying winters in Florida and Wisconsin summers here. I leave New Years Day to continue that routine. My kids will all be here for Christmas this weekend, Two families live here in town and the third will travel up from KCMO. Merry Christmas to all who read this!
