Jim's Story
My life after Monache was working at my parent's Pizza Hut. The food biz bug had bitten. I worked at the Palace Hotel dining room in P'ville, waiting tables and tending bar until '85.
I moved to San Diego with my buddy Keith Conley. I remained in San Diego, having married Sherry Conley, a San Diego girl, in 1988. In 1994, we left for two years while I attended culinary school in San Francisco. Having graduated with honors in 1996, I did time in several good kitchens both in the bay area and, ultimately, back here in SD. In 2000, I opened Moveable Eats, a food shop, cafe and gourmet market. the California electric meltdown of 2000-01 was more than my fledgeling business could keep up with. I was forced to close in July 2001. At that same time, the girl who watched my then two year old daughter, Oliviah, informed us that she was moving back home to get married, I embarked upon what is my current occupation - stay-at-home-dad.
It's a good job, good benefits (pay sucks) and I would not give up the time I've had with my girl for anything. I am, however, starting a personal chef service. The scheduling freedom it allows me will fit in well with my Oliviah responsibilities.
