Jim's Story
Life
I have been married for 41 years (to Loucinda Ranton class of '75. Yes, our romance began in high school and I believe our love and admiration of one another continues to grow each day. Thank goodness for that because she was the only date I ever got. We have four great boys ages 34 (Curtis), 32 (Garret), 27 (Aaron) and 18 (Patrick, a stray Fijian we picked up). Curtis and Garret attended Edmonds-Woodway High School, Aaron and Patrick are Meadowdale graduates. Curt recently obtained his Masters from grad school in California and then married Brianna, a fellow grad student, in December 2012. We now have two grandchildren (both boys) and it is everything they always said it would be! (pictures below of course!) Garret is back in Edmonds after graduating with a degree in psychology and working at Compas Health in Everett as a therapist. Aaron is in Law School after graduating from Western Washington University in Bellingham. Patrick is at Edmonds CC and makes a living selling his art (paintings).
We live just above (East of) the Emerald Hills development in Edmonds, about a mile from the new Edmonds-Woodway and 5 miles from the old Woodway. We have one cat (which I don't like at all but Lou and the boys love dearly) and an aquarium of fish and an African pygmy frog (which I like but no one else cares much about, except the cat who likes the fish a lot).
After High School I attended the University of Washington majoring in English Literature. It took me 6 years to get a 4 year degree but it was the Warren Moon football era so I was in no hurry. I wanted those cheap student tickets! I then went on to the University of Puget Sound Law School and finally obtained my Juris Doctorate degree in 83. During those 9 college years I worked as a carpenter, then an electrician, then ran a SCUBA shop and taught SCUBA lessons, then traveled around the United States and to the Olympic games in Montreal on motorcycles with Dan Gerou '74, John Wahl '74 and Matt Mikkelborg '74, and finally got a job flying at a commercial ...Expand for more

Lou worked for Knoll International for our first 10 years of marriage. She quit once our second son turned 2 but until then I had a great time as Mr. Mom while Lou traveled 2 weeks out of the month throughout the U.S., Alaska, Caribbean and Europe. After 10 years away we moved back to Edmonds to be near grandparents and family. I served on the Edmonds City Council for 5 years, 2 with Roger (Mr.) Meyers (math/basketball coach). I served as a part-time judge/lawyer for 15 years and then became the Judge of Edmonds Municipal Court. I left law in 2005, taking two years off and then joined Bluegrace Holdings (Bluegrace.EU), a European based international holding conglomerate, as Group Director (CEO). I traveled a lot between Seattle, LA, NY and Europe. It was fun and interesting and so very different from being stuck in a downtown Seattle law office! I earned a Doctorate in Education in 2012 and subsequently an MBA. I am teaching graduate business classes in International Negotiations and Business communications at two universities and also mentoring doctoral students and editing doctoral dissertations. This is all online work - that way I can travel and work from where ever I am at the time. Loucinda was a Professor (25 years) at a private 4 year college but now happily retired. We travel several times a year to New York/East Coast, Europe and the South Pacific. We have a non-profit foundation (NGO) in Fiji (FijiHealth.org) that we started over 20 years ago. We always enjoy having people visit us there and we loan the house out (for FREE) all the time. If you have any interest in going, let me know. We would rather have the house occupied than vacant when we are not there, and we like showing people around when we are there. I enjoy being in the mountains, under the water, in the air, and other "high adventure" sports and I always like partnering up with other like-minded people. I would enjoy hearing from others of you.
