Jimmy's Story
After graduation I joined the Air Force. With the draft going on and Vietnam conflict esculating I preferred not to be in the Army. My draft papers arrived just two days after I was sworn into the Air Force. I was married in January of 1967 to Sara Katherine (Shuler) Smith in Tacoma, Washington. One year after we were married I was sent to Vietnam where my planning paid off. I was stationed at an army airfield and did not have to live in the jungles among the enemy as some of our brave men in defense of our freedom. I was proud to serve and even more proud of the many who paid the ultimate price.
Sara and I lived in Tacoma, WA; Fairborn, OH, Anchorage, AK and Dayton, OH. We had two stillborn children. Sara was born with a heart condition wan was told by the doctors she would live to be 25 years old if she were lucky. Sara passed away on May 2, 2005 and was 58 and a half years old. We were bledded with 38 and a half wonderful years of marriage.

orking for the Federal Government at Wright-Patterson AFB for 26 and a half years in various jobs all in the headquarters facility in Logistics. I retired December 31, 1999 with a combined military and civil service of 34 and a half years. I worked for a contractor for 8 years following my retirement, but am noe fully retired.
My time is spent making wooden toys, delivering them as Santa in December, scrapbooking, photo journaling and photographing wildlife. I have been a member of the Knollwood Church of Christ in Beavercreek, OH since 1973. I currently live in Beavercreek, OH on a lot that backs up to a wildlife/wetland area that is full of many types of wildlife and enjoy my home and location very much. Though I have no children of my own, I have 9 Nephews and Neices, and 12 great Nephews and Neices as well as the children of many cousins and friends. I am kept very busy viewing soccer, wrestling, swimming, birthday parties, and coming up with new wooden toys for all the younger ones.
