Joan's Story
Life
Hi everyone. My husband, Jon, and I have been together for 23 years. We moved to Madison, Alabama (near Huntsville) several years ago with our 2 sons. (Jon is a "rocket scientist," and Huntsville is "Rocket City," so he has plenty of work to do here.) We love it here. It is very pretty (blue skies and plenty of tall trees) and very safe. Most people are "transplants" so we don't feel like we are living in "deep south." It is a lot like Orange County was when we were all young. One of this area's greatest appeals was that housing prices weren't as crazy, and we could custom build our home (Now, that was an adventure!).
It was hard for our boys to leave family and friends at St. Francis of Assisi school in Yorba Linda, but they adjusted. Now, both of our sons, Jon, Jr. and Jason attend Catholic High School (Yes, that's its name -- when you live in the South, and there aren't many Catholic schools, the name is kept simple!) They both play sports to keep busy (and to keep us busy!)
I am still a full-time mom ("retired" in 1989! Thank y...Expand for more
ou hubby!) but I am writing a book which I hope to have completed by the end of the year. I enjoy cooking, swimming, and working out. We go to California every July for a month to catch up with old friends and family. I love hearing from old friends so anyone can email me at jlauer95(at)aol.com Take care!
College
As an undergrad, I pledged Delta Zeta sorority and have kept in contact with many of my sorority sisters ever since. After graduating and working in the defense industry, I decided to go back and get a masters in software engineering. That was one of the toughest things I've ever done (other than giving birth!).
Workplace
I have been "retired" from the defense industry ever since the birth of our oldest son, Jon, in 1989. Since then I've kept busy with our children's sports and activities. I continue to volunteer at our church and at our children's school. I am currently writing a book and enjoying the challenge. I don't miss working at a "regular job" for one minute. I am grateful that my husband's career allows me this freedom.
