Joan's Story
I can't believe how time has flown. I look over the list of names from the class of '69 and know a lot of them. It seems like only yesterday I was decorating a float for homecoming and attending the homecoming dance. I had a lot of fun at Maine South and had a lot of friends that I have lost track of. I only have fond memories of those days.
After graduation I went to U of I at Chicago Circle for two years and did not graduate. I fell in love with a young man and thought we were going to live happily ever after. That did not happen. I did get married years later and then divorced 6 years after that when my son was two years old. My wonderful son is now 23 years old and just graduated with a BSBA in Finance.
I recently finished up my degree. I will be making student loan payments until I am in my early 70's. Ha. I guess it was crazy but I really wanted a bachelor's degree before I left this earth. I received my BSBA with a focus on Project Management and ended up with a 3.99 GPA. Too bad I wasn't that dedicated to my studies in the 70's. :)
I owned and operated a few small businesses over the years including a day care and...Expand for more
tutoring center, and currently have an Internet Marketing business doing SEO and affiliate marketing. I stayed in Illinois even though my family moved to AZ in 1975 after my father passed away. I was a Supervisor of a Data Processing Department (remember "data processing"?) and did not want to leave a good job.
I have lived in Hawthorn Woods IL,Vernon HIills IL, Buffalo Grove IL, Des Plaines IL, and now Rockford IL. I bought rental properties in Rockford and was a landlord for 6 years until I just could not deal with the hassles involved and sold them. I currently want to leave this City but I bought a house here and it is 100 years old this year. I have spent a lot of money and time on rehab and stripping the 11" mahogany baseboards and widow frames, and refinishing the floors. I have two more rooms to do and the kitchen will need sprucing before I put it on the market. Hopefully by the time I finish there will be equity in the house. I have called this my '10 year flip' but I am going on 11 years now. Oh well. :)
I am looking forward to the reunion, though I haven't seen any names on the list that I recognize yet.
