Joan's Story
After graduating from Art & Design, I went to SVA for Painting and Photography, met some memorable folks. After finishing there, I headed up to Alaska to live with an older sister and see what things were like up there. Eventually I came back to SI, worked and played for a few years, then followed Janet (twin sister) to NH, where I've been ever since 1980. I met my husband, had a daughter, 3 cats, 2 dogs- not all at the same time, mind you.
Most of the time through the years, I've worked as a custom picture framer on SI, NH, MAINE and VT. along with an assortment of odd jobs, and having a home business of a B&W darkroom, and doing photo...Expand for more
restoration in the days before everything went digital.
While our daughter was a baby and up until 1st grade, I didn't work outside the home. Once she was in school, I picked up on framing again for a few more years.
Because of my daughter, I became a volunteer with Girl Scouts, and we are both life-time members. I still serve on our community's team, and enjoy meeting different leaders, although I no longer have a troop. For the past 2 years, I've taught a foraging (edible wild plants) workshop at an annual GS leaders weekend, as well at our local library in the fall. As it happens, I have also been a trustee at our library since 2000.
