Joan's Story
My greatest escape and release from stress is pursuing my joy of Scuba Diving. I have traveled all over the world enjoying this sport. I thought I had the most thrilling experience when I dove the Great Barrier Reef in '94. This experience was surpassed when I made a trip to the Galapagos in '06. Every dive there was a sensory overload. I had 24 encouters with whale sharks. The under sea world helps me refocus and enjoy life at its simplest level.
I am a wound/ostomy nurse and am daily challenged by the patients that I encounter. I also teach part-time at two community colleges. At one college I encounter nurses coming back to the profession as refresher students and at the other I meet students entering the nursing field. The profession...Expand for more
of nursing has been good to me as it has always kept me challenged.
When I am not traveling or teaching, just puttering around my house brings me pleasure. It could be cooking, gardening, painting or repairing, but it all makes me appreciative for the life that I have.
My rescued Lab, Conan, is always a source of entertainment. His specialty is retrieving (of course) and snoring. Someone trained him very well(he knows hand signals) so I have had little to do in training. I just have to watch out that his tail does not wipe out every surface of my house.
I enjoy keeping in touch with my old friends through all the avenues - phone, e-mail, facebook, whatever. It is interesting to see my friends children grow up and the paths they choose.
