Joann's Story

Graduated...Went to work for an insurance company as a clerk for 6 months. Worked for the State as a secretary for 3 years. Worked for Westinghouse in Hunt Valley for 13 years as Administrative Secretary. Married since 1991 with one son (who is now a freshman at Stevenson University beginning in Fall 2010.) Quit Westinghouse (Now Northrop Grumman) in 1992 to work with my husband in the antique business. Worked at that until 2007 while raising my son. I LOVED the antique business and working with my husband, but self-employed health insurance rates got way too high and ineffective, so I came back to office administrative work. I continued selling occasionally on Ebay, but it became too time consuming. Since 2007, I have worked in the English Language Arts Office at Baltimore County Public Schools as an Administrative Secretary. (Boy....are things different from this side of the fence rather than being a student!) I keep in touch with a few high school friends and occasionally run into people here & there. It's always nice to see the old faces. I'm sure we've all changed over the years, and I'm looking forward to going to the October 23, 2010 reunion. Some things that I got from the Story Wizard on this site are below: I LOVE THE RAVENS The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Mary Madsen, because she was a GREAT English teacher, and I now work for the English Office at Baltimore County Public Schools. As a parent, I've learned that if you treat your child with patience and respect from the time they are small, it pays off BIG when they become young adults! If I won $100 million, I'd give $10 million of it to a Baptist Church, then spend the res...Expand for more
t on a condo at the beach, a cabin in the mountains, Civil War memorabilia, fund some programs to help people read and my SON!. My current age is 52. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be crippled and gray-haired. I was so completely CLUELESS!. In 10 years, I hope to be less stressed!. I'm going to get there by taking one thing at a time. My oldest friend is Anita Howell. We met in first grade at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Baltimore. We're still friends, and when she relinquished her maiden name of HOWELL, I married a guy with the last name of HOWELL. It was too good a name to waste! (Just kidding, but isn't that IRONIC?) We still keep in touch, although not as much as we'd like. You know how it is - Life gets in the way! One thing that may surprise people at a reunion is that I've never dyed my red hair and the few grays are really hard to spot. By now, almost everyone I know has colored their hair at least once! (I'm actually afraid to color it, because I have no idea what color it would turn out!) My first job was at Bituminous Insurance Company, where I got paid $5,600 per year to file claims. What I remember most about it is I was SO BORED and I vowed never to work for an insurance company again! - I never did!. A childhood memory I'll never forget is when our softball coach piled us all in the back of his pickup truck and took the entire team to the snowball stand after the games. Can you imagine that happening today? I don't think so. I wish kids today could enjoy the simple things that we did and not always be on informational overload. Does anyone remember the world without the communication technology we have today? We actually survived!!!
