Joanna's Story

Grew up in Purcellville, Va and attended Loudoun Valley until March 1977 when my family moved to northern Harford County, Maryland. I transferred to North Harford High School. Finished college at Medical College of Virginia and worked 8 1/2 years as a cytotechnologist before changing jobs to be home full-time in 1991 when our first child was born. Married to Clay since 1985. Home educated my four children K-12 for 20 years. Since 1987, been office manager for Clay's business, Rock Ridge Forge LLC. Lots of volunteer activities including longtime 4-H leader, church, Harford County Farm Fair, organizing events within the homeschool community and other groups. Three...Expand for more
of my four kids are now married, with one living an hour away near Baltimore, one living in Tennessee, and one living locally near Jarrettsville. My unmarried one is living in Japan teaching English to middle-school aged students. Life took a turn in June 2015 when Clay had emergency surgery for Grade IV, glioblastoma brain cancer. We almost lost him. As of March 2024, he's doing really well. God has been so merciful to us and carries us on this journey of life. Our journey is on my CaringBridge.org blog under Clay Miller. In my free time, I enjoy family history and genealogical research, photography, and spending time with family and friends on our small farm.
