Joanne's Story

Life As of 01/02, Marketing Rep for MEDITECH. I demonstrate advanced clinical software for health care organizations. I also work per diem as a Medical Technologist. Bought my first house in August 2005, guess I'll be staying for a while. Single for the first time in a long time and enjoying it...for now! College LOVED college, found a new interest in history and music. Actually did really well in my math type classes. University of Vermont rocks. AND I'm almost done paying for it ten years later. Still keep in touch with most of my roommates. They live across the US now, but try to stay in touch on a regular basis and visit when I can. I would really like to take a class or two here at home, but I don't have a regular schedule with my job, so it's very difficult. Workplace I had a job at the hospital on Nantucket (the cottage) before graduation from UVM. Enjoyed every minute (just about), definitely an interesting life, living on an island, working amongst my neighbors, learning the ropes very quick. Had to learn how to play golf there (I think it's required if you live there). The only downside was not being able to afford my own place, I rented a room in several homes over the 3 years there. Kind of wore on me. Really miss my coworkers and the job itself. Decided to travel, had the opportunity to travel as a lab tech for the US Dept of Health. Couldn't pass it up. I spent the next 4 years working ...Expand for more
for a company called Westat (Rockville, MD) as a lab tech for the Nat'l Health and Nutrition Exam Survey. I lived in a new place every 6 weeks, so I've lived everywhere from Boston to Tampa, San Diego to Yakima, everywhere in between. Awesome experience, been everywhere, done it all. Moved back home in 2002 because my brothers families were expanding and didn't want to miss out on being an auntie, seeing how I wasn't having my own kids anytime soon (there were other reasons as well, but a very long story). Worked in a regular hospital in Prov (which shall remain nameless), in the blood bank. Hated it, cannot stress the importance of actually liking the people you work with every day. That takes me to Meditech, my current employer. Enjoy my co workers, the company treats me well. I started out marketing their lab system, but now demonstrate their nursing software, which is a whole other world. I get to travel often and everywhere for the job. I travel to Canada every now and then, been sent to the Bahamas for a week (to work a couple of days), and I've recently spent 10 days in Dubai, UAE, which was absolutely amazing. I would never have had that opportunity working in a hospital. However, I also do lab work on a per diem basis here in Woonsocket to supplement my income since I've bought my home last summer. It's nice to be back in the lab, I've missed it, but it's also great to know I don't have to be there every day.
