Jodelle (Jody)'s Story
I have a son named Chad who enlisted in the Army (active duty) as a Combat Medic. He was stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington. Although he is adjusting to the rain, he likes snowboarding at Crystal mountain. Keep him in your prayers. His Ranger Regiment is deploying again before Christmas 2012.
I own a townhouse in the San Francisco Bay area; a quaint little place called Castro Valley. It's the only city in Alameda County not incorporated (no city taxes). I retired as the Director of Logistics at the 162nd Combat Communications Group in North Highlands (Sacramento) in 2011. I taught computer classes part-time at Solano Community College from 1997-2000.
I purchased a single family home in Sacramento, 15 miles East of UC Davis, 6 miles from Midtown. It's in a gated community and near the Sacramento River. Now I can drive to Tahoe in less than two hours. Renting the townhouse until the market improves in 2013 or beyond.
I love Cali-fornia. The weather here is spectacular, always sunny, and very little humidity! It usually rains in the winter time. Everything become green and fresh again. The arts and entertainment of San Francisco are a pleasure to enjoy. My favorite activities in Sacramento are bicycling on the American River Trail and sailing at Lake Washington in West Sacramento. I recently discovered several great restaurants and dance clubs in Midtown near the state Capitol on J, K, and L streets.
Would I move back to Ohio? Never a full-time resident! May rent a seasonal cabin in Hide-A-Way Hills after I retire. I visit my family and friends back home on a yearly basis. I went to college at the Ohio University-Lancaster campus in 1981-1983 followed by three years at the main campus in Athens. OU gave me a well-rounded liberal arts, scientific, and business education. I graduated with two Bachelor degrees - Psychology and Computer Systems in Business. A few years later, I earned an MBA - Information Systems degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. Someday, I'll go back to school and obtain a graduate degree in Psychology. There is a national shortage of counselors, teachers, and psychologists. When I retire from the Air National Guard, I want to go into part-time counseling or substitute teaching. Could also become a real estate agent or a day trader of stocks and commodities. University of Phoenix and the California Art Institute are within walking distance from my front porch.
I've been in five films in 2012 as an extra and lead character. I also produce film clips for Youtube videos.

Update: Had a complete response after six, RCHOP chemo treatments. Currently in remission. Finished the remaining infusion of Rituximab to target any B cells forming tumors. My fine hair grew back thicker and a shade darker. Hair is now easier to manage on windy days. Thanks everyone for your positive energy and prayers. I'm still alive, and happy most of the time. Dating again. Had a wonderful time at the Class of 1981 reunion (30th) in 2011. Leave me a note if you're interested in meeting or skiing with me in California. Or just want to say hello.
School
Kilnam Lee and Bob Smith were my best male friends in high school. And from the LHS Class of '82. They made me laugh and I adored them. Susan Shaw and I became better friends in college. She helped me through accounting and I helped her with computer programming.
Happiest High School memories: Being on the Girls Field Hockey, JV Basketball, and varsity Cross-Country teams. Sophomore year as a miler on the girls' track team. Getting to leave the track twice a week to log in distance miles with Missy, Jenny, Cassandra, and Marianne. Running over to Mount Pleasant and Rising Park before we headed to the Dairy Queen. Coach Reall's "mountain course" was a killer. John Zishka & Missy Dittmar inspired many of us to run. Very sad to hear Becky Rose (Class of '81) and Beth Slater (Class of '79) passed away at early ages. We never know what life has in store for us and how long we have left on this small, blue globe. Cherish it while you can.
College
Attended college at the Ohio University-Lancaster branch campus and later transferred to the main campus. Enjoyed my two years at the OU-L branch campus. Played one year of college basketball as a wing, reserve point guard. Molly Hoffman (Class of '81) was our superstar, most valuable player. First college roommate was Delwin Chang from Malaysia. Somehow I ended up in the International dorm of Shively Hall in Athens (aka "The Pancake House"). Great experience! Delwin helped me through 10 weeks of calculus. We saw a student throw his desk out a second story window during finals week. Loved Athens, all the bars on Court street, Air Force ROTC (Detachment 650), and different nationalities, ethnic, cultural diversity. High school was an okay, average experience. College was the life molding experience.
I always wanted to be a military officer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were right.
Blow off steam by running, cycling, skiing, and playing my guitar. Relax with a glass of wine in hand, inside a heated hot tub.
