Jodi's Story

After leaving Coronado, I did a short stint at ASU, then went up to NAU to study music. I enlisted in the Army in 1976 and spent 3 years in their music program and ended up working as a saxophne and flute instructor to Army, Navy and Marine Core students at the Naval Amphib Base in Virginia Beach, VA. What a hoot that was and I met a lot of fabulous musicians there! Married one of them, and we lived in Virginia Beach till 1992 when my father passed unexpectedly. Came home to Arizona (yeah!) and began another stage of life and career. In 1993, I opened a Jeep Tour company out of Goldfield Ghost Town and worked that for 15 years. Those that remember me from high school will know I have a great love of the outdoors (thanks to my father) and having a job that allowed my to play outdoors for a living was exceptional! From exploring backcountry trails all over Arizona, to doing horse packtrips into the Superstitions - this job truly allowed me to do what I love to do. During 5 years of that time, I also owned & operated Prospector's Palace at Goldfiled - a small business where we taught adults and kids how to pan for gold. So now I can add "Professional Gold Digger" to my resume! HA! I sold the Jeep Tour company in 2007, and sold the gold panning business a month later in 2008, thinking I would be heading towards retirement. ire, so in 2008, I aquired the general store at Goldfield and promptly renamed it the "Mother Lode Mercantile". I loaded the store with a melange of western and southwestern wares, an Ol' Time Candy Shoppe, and our highly acclaimed homemade fudge which we make onsite. Our claim to fame is our Prickly Pear fudge - made from the fruit of the prickly pear cactus. As far as we know - we are the only ones in the country that make this flavor, and it sure is a hit with everyone. We also have another exclusive fudge flavor we created which we call our Gold Nugget fudge. This is made with decedent chocolate fudge and macadamia nuts, a river of golden gooey caramel running through it, and topped with real 23K gold. Another hit with our customers! I plan to sell and really retire in a few more years, but currently I'm just having a good time with the store, During my off times, my husband and I continue to explore the backcountry of Arizona and Utah on our ATV's, and spend a lot of time at our remote cabin just south of Bryce Canyon that runs on solar power. We are totally off-the-grid. No phones, no electric lines - just peace and quiet and views that knock your socks off. (And hundreds of ATV miles to explore!) So life is good, but hell, it just sucks getting older, right?? Can't dwell on that too much....too many more trails to explore! Happy Trails to everyone!
